Microsoft's $5 million fund for rewarding informants for leads on virus attacks has snagged its first success with the arrest of a man in Germany who has confessed to the release of the Sasser worm, the software giant said Saturday.

And for today's dose of bullshit:
Microsoft also claimed that several new virus research techniques that the software giant has developed over the past year have played a key role in identifying the author and verifying the data provided by the informants.

Yup, he could write the worm for a certain flaw in windows, as there seems to be no lack of them, and then get a bonus for patching it.

I kinda doubt it. Most of these guys arent the "intellectual" type you should be in order to be a problem solver. These guys are only good at smash and grabs through an open window(or windows).
Anything more advanced than "pick up brick, throw brick" confuses them terribly.

Well most of the time these type of people wait till MS releases a patch, then figure out what the patch is fixing, then write a virus to take advantage of people who have not updated. None are smart enough to find a hole themselves and make a job out of it.
