Hi, I'm stuck between newshosting.com and usenetserver.com... I'm just wondering which you guys would pick. Both have unlimited download accounts for the same price, both also have good things said about them at maany sites that I have visited. usenetserver seems to have slightly better speed and more storage, while newshosting has a better retention and a nice web interface. I could be off, just seemed like that from what I read. Have you guys used either or both? What would you guys choose?
I'm on a ten mbit line that I would love to utilize and yes, I will surely go over any plan that is not unlimited, so just keep that in mind if you want to start throwing giganews and easy news at me.
Thank you in advance.

Hi!
I have been using Usenetserver.com for the last month and I have been generally very happy. Very fast download speeds, good retention and good completion. Occasionally the download speeds go a bit beserk, for example they will cut off for no good reason, but that is rare. For 15 bucks a month and unlimited downloads, its a great deal.

sounds like usenetserver.com is good.
I still use my internet providers news server, it has great
retention as well.

Thank you Tom, I needed a user opinion. I still would be interested to hear what people think of newshosting though to. I'm not going to purchase it until this afternoon and I have to say, I have been steadily leaning towards usenetserver. Thank you once again Tom.

Hey Slycktom
How would you rate usenetserver against easynews? As good retention? Do they have "all" the groups? Can you upload too? Any other factors on par?
I'm just curious, because i'm thinking about switching, as easynews is a bit too pricey for my habits as of late.

Kazaa lite is a client, for the fasttrack network.
It has nothing to do with Newsgroups (Usenet) access.

Um I talked to a representative from Usenetservers and he said you can have 6 connections on a very fast line and that it's well over 90% completion.
I'm still stuck between the two though. newshosting has a web interface, 98% completion, and a retention that is soon going to be 32 days.
"The first set of additional spools has been installed. This will increase binary retention to 24 days. The next planned upgrade (in a week or so) will take retention up to 32+ days."
I do think I am going to settle on usenetservers because it is faster and cheaper with a 3 month plan. Newshosting is limited to 2 mbits/s and I think only 2 connections, I know it's in their faq, just too lazy :)

I'm partial to usenetserver. up to six connections 3mps downloads, a good amount of completed files. You can upload, request missing pars. I usually go here(www.nfonews.com) to search for a particular file. it will show you in what binery the file is located at.

Actually it's not shawners. It's a different ballpark when you pay for stuff and when you are talking about plans, retention, and other factors.
There is no newserver that works best on windows, there is no newserver that connects to the most networks, and so on... It's simply a matter of who has used what and the feedback they give. I mean it will cost me almost $200 a year for accounts, so I'm not just going to throw my money away. I think it was a legitimate thread, one of which was not already on this forum, as far as I could tell and it wasn't one of those definitive best threads, I had my choices down to 2 and was looking for feedback from other parties on both, from people who have used them.

I mean that in the sense of what is the best of something for windows or whatever.. He was trying to make it sound like I was looking to make a best of thread. Like what's the best firewall for windows.

Just an update for you Ken. I bought an account at Usenetserver, which was instantly activated... 32,000 newsgroup, retention seems great. Speedwise, I top out at 320 kilobytes a second, but it's steady most of the time and if it falls, it's not far down. That's not too bad, I mean I could go three times that, but for newsgroups I won't argue. It does let me connect 6 x though, which is nice when using newsleecher or newsreactor. As for completeness, most of what I saw was verified as being complete by news leecher. I'm happy with it... I mean it's not as good as the usenet.com account I used to have, but I'm also happy to not be paying $40 a month for it either. Seems like it would be a reasonable transistion for you also.

I have been using usenetserver since april 30 and it has been a great ride so far. I have got 5 albums I couldnt find anywhere else, tons of movies. And my speed is always between 340KB and 410KB per sec! I dont even get those speeds during regular surfing! I only bought the 1 month for 1495 deal incase I didnt care for it. But I think they will have me for 3 more months at least come the end of may.

I actually just hit about 420, steady, while downloading headers for the music video group. That's not too bad really. I actually was fairly impressed. :)
