I just downloaded a movie I've been wanting to see. But no matter what I do, it won't play. After the title, it says .SVCD.TS-Centropy.DIVX.XTech. It claims to be a Winamp file.
Any ideas?

Did you try videolan player? Usually that one will play files that others won't.

rainbowdemon
May 3rd, 2004, 05:41 AM
Just right click on the file and change it like that?
vipp
May 3rd, 2004, 05:43 AM
Yup, just change it to .avi on the end and see if it plays then :)

I didn't think that would work, but it was worth a try. I've never seen an extension like you've got there. From now on make sure you are getting either .avi or mpeg files, (or .rar or .tar if you are using irc). :)

I did a search for it http://www.google.ca/search?q=SVCD.TS-Centropy.DIVX.XTech&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&meta=
that thing ends in .smi
Could be it

If you are, say so.

On 2nd thought a streaming media extension probably is a bad idea. waaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since that might be a Real file you can try renaming it to a Real extension like .rt, rm, rp, rv, rm, rmvb. Maybe 1 of them will work

smi is a Mac only extension

There are alot of mixed signals. Real, Qt, streaming. txt files. Mac. I'd just try renaming it to various extensions and maybe 1 will finally work. http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&safe=off&q=.smi+file&meta=

Maybe it's an svcd or a vcd file, try the .mpg extention.

You probably need a codec. Go to www.headbands.com/gspot/ to download gspot, this is a proggie that will tell you what kind of file it is and what you need to play it. Open the file with gspot and then post what it says so I can tell you what you need.
Peace

Download Xvid from http://www.divx-digest.com/software/xvid.html Download Divx from http://www.divx.com/ Download AVI preview from http://www.avipreview.com/ and play your freaking movie!
Also try using a VCD player download WinDVD demo and try loading the file that way!

because of the file size and because it says svcd it is most likely a .bin file. Change the name and use video lan. It's very strange that it says divx and svcd since they are non compatible formats.

you say it claims to be a winamp file. I assume you have winamp installed, try uninstalling winamp and playing the file.

ive downloaded movies that would be two different extensions or tells you to rename it. Look at the other files, and see if you find one thats in a normal extension, like .avi.. or mpg. . It may be an iso file.
