What is Ping and Pong for?
Surely you only need Query and Query Hit?

ping pong is
probably pinging the hosts that your connected to like time alive
or
something like that.

Alot of the documentation about the gnutella protocol can be found at rfc gnutella (http://rfc-gnutella.sourceforge.net/) as well as the gdf..

I've checked out the http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/pingpong
page, and even though I have read this before, the meaning has sunk in, this time.
"Gnutella's ping and pong messages serve two functions:
1. Return IP addresses of other servents so you can establish more connections.
2. (See above link)
So more connections means more search results, which means more files to download.
This is ideally of course, but who ever gets any decent search results off Gnutella, anyways?
FastTrack seems to give me a result for just about ANYTHING
