Well the title pretty much says it all. Just wondering if anyone has tried Overnet Lite (http://kppfree.altervista.org/ovlinf.html). Cause if you goto slyck.com and look at the statstisics, you'll se that overnet is quite popular, and i heard that the original overnet installs spyware crap on your comp, even though you de-select adware on the start up installation.
Any comments on Overnet Lite (http://kppfree.altervista.org/ovlinf.html)?

I use the regular Overnet and it never installed any crap on my PC. You just have to opt out of it. All it does is show an ad and, according to the screenshots on that site, Overnet Lite does the same thing.

Overnet gives you the choice to install some 3rd party software. Just decline. In fact if you do the install while offline the 3rd party software will not be installed and the install process is much quicker. Anyone who agrees to install this stuff and is then surprised to find it on their PC is plainly stupid. Overnet has one banner ad, this is what Overnet Lite removes. You can do the same thing by managing your hosts file.

I'm not going to get too far into this, but the regular Overnet does not install anything unless you tell it to during Install, and the banners are only generated by a harmless script. That being said, there was once some knowledge of people saying that Overnet Lite came with a trojan, but who knows if that is true or not.
The facts: Overnet Lite is an ad-ware free version of Overnet, which isn't that hard to accomplish. That being said, I've taken my regular version of Overnet, and made it lite myself, without having to put my trust in some shady people who create the lite program.

Thanks for all your comments, and i can say that overnet lite does not come with a trojan, as i did a full system scan the other day, and found nothing.
I will install the original Overnet instead of installing Overnet Lite.
But i would like to know how to edit the hosts file, to get rid of that top banner, that Overnet Lite manages to accomplish.
Thanks again

Well i decided to install overnet ( the real one) and i as soon as i executed the setup program, my firewall immediately picked up that the prog was trying to access the internet!! so i blocked it, and the setup went funny, so i closed it down....
Are you sure they dont put adware on ur comp even without ur acknowledgement?

It is actually overnet pro! :) I ran it on a slow PC and it says in the title bar thingy Edonkey 2000 (b/c i think it is edonkey just re-worked) then Overnet Pro then Overnet Lite ok just to prove a point anyone whom has regular overnet goto the registration scrre and put in this:
Name: Overnet
Pass: Lite
and it will/shoulkd register so overnet lite is really warez (i guess) .....anyways its still better than Overnet!
Sorry if im posting serialz/keyz

begoodbebad u knob head, i dont know about u, but i sure can read.
If you read my post carefully, you'll understand that i hadn't installed the application. I just run the program, and my firewall picked up that overnet was trying to connect to an outside server. Also this has never happened to any other p2p apps that i have downloaded and installed.
(begoodbebad, i have underlined the words so that it easier for to u to read and understand)

And you dont think that the setup file might have to contact the overnet/edonkey site to download the setup files! thats why your firewall will be picking up that its trying to contact the web :tol and overnet/edonkey does not install spyware with out you telling it to! it only installs a little banner which can be stopped by editing your windows host file (see above)
peace
dont start a flaming too! :wings

Overnet Lite removes the banner without editing or replacing your original HOSTS file.
