Here's a challenge for those who post at Zeropaid:

Considering that all of our musical tastes run the gamut from classical to techno to country to metal to jazz to...I propose the following: peruse your music collection and post the absolute oldest/rarest/out of print/hard to find song of any genre you may have under the assumption that other ZPers most likely don't have it in theirs. The gist of this challenge is to see how many matches we get and to get an idea of how similar and/or divergent our tastes in music are.

4/30/04 6:37 p.m., C.S.T.:
In this case, the music collection I'm referring to is the TANGIBLE, HARDCOPY (CD/cassette/vinyl/8-track/reel-to-reel/mini disc/antique music box/Victrola/nickelodeon piano sheets/SACD/insert future audio technology here) that you OWN, not files obtained via P2P clients. This addendum is courtesy of Mr. Thorn-In-Your-Side-And-Won't-Leave-You-Alone - the one and ony notbob.

P.S.: It doesn't matter whether or not it's playable. I'm sure that all of us have "popped" cassettes, severely scratched/warped/cracked vinyl and damaged-beyond-repair CDs lying around. Let's see how many "I have that too" replies we can get!

First song: "Wet Dream" by Kip Addotta.

In short, the song details, via plays on the name of several species of fish, the story of a male fish that meets a female fish in an underwater "club" and is unaware of the fact she's already attached. The male paramour and the female fish's "boyfriend" get into a brawl at the club, her boyfriend loses due to a twist of fate and the male fish decides that his female suitor is not worth the effort.

Three meals a day...Hmmm...Actually, I skipped lunch this afternoon. And despite your sarcasm, I thought that this thread would receive more a favorable response as the majority of posters at this site spend decent amounts of time in front of a computer with music playing (singular songs/playlists) or nearby as evidenced by the infinitely long "Now playing" threads, album reviews and random threads about particular artists. If you choose not to participate, feel free to crawl back into your shell.

My submission is not a song but an album. Anyone else around here have The Kingston Trio's album "Where Have All The Flowers Gone"?

If you really really want a song, I would say....Air Macks by Kenny "Dope" Rodriguez.

BTW I don't even know if the song is Jelly Roll or Blue Murder. Clarification please! I sure as heck don't have this. :)

Encomium: A Tribute To Led Zeppelin : Tangerine

"encomium" is the album (a various artists compilation)

the band (for that song) is big head todd and the monsters

"rare files" are a created concept

as a file is infinitely reproducible and transferrable, there is no reason (other than personal greed) that if it exists, the file shouldn't be easy to find in this world of huge hard drives and broadband pipes

You do this shit just for the fun of it, right? I'm more than aware of the fact that the version of "Tangerine" referred to was released on an album performed by various artists in tribute to Zeppelin. That's why I stated I have the originally released studio version of said song from the original album released 34 years ago.

Secondarily, I SPECIFICALLY implied that the objective was to list some old/out-of-print/hard-to-find/rare stuff that ONE OWNS ON A TANGIBLE, HARD COPY FORMAT, such as cassette (rectangle), vinyl (big circle, usually black) and/or CD (small shiny circle). I didn't type the word "file" once in the outset of this thread. I know damn well that any individual with a broadband connection, decent sized hard drive and knowledge of mp3s/file conversion could obtain the vast majority of any released/bootlegged major label catalog, mix tape, live performance et al. I didn't ask for "files you've downloaded." It's a safe assumption that most of the individuals who post here have moderate to "deep" collections of music on CDs and/or other formats (i.e. Kiwibank and Rickio, just to name two).

How about this one with the sleeve still inside but the cover is sun faded.
Kingston Trio's album: "The Kingston Trio at Large" (1959) with the hit single M.T.A.

I have about 50, 78RPM albums dating from 1945 to 1957 give me sometime and I am sure I can find a pretty good hit from that time period.

your thesis is :"I propose the following: peruse your music collection and post the absolute oldest/rarest/out of print/hard to find song of any genre you may have under the assumption that other ZPers most likely don't have it in theirs. ", and by that broad statement, would inherently include files

One of the rarest thing I have is a Xmas 7" picture disc by the Butthole Surfers of "Good King Wencenslaus (I know I have that spelled wrong). Touch and go only pressed like 300 of them,. and right after that, the Surfers started to suck real bad. I also have the debut album of what could probably be called the first rap album from the late 60s by a group called The Last Poets. They were a bunch of Black Panthers whose songs/poems make Public Enemy seem like Strom Thurmond in comparison.

Actually, I've been a punk/underground vinyl consumer since the late 70s, so I have a bunch of rare shit, but those two records were the first thing that comes to mind,

I've been searching for this song for about a year and have yet to find it, perhaps one of you has it.

The original "Tourniquet" no, not the Evanescence version as that is a cover, yet I cannot find the original one, I forget who sings it but it's damn near impossible to find.

Try finding the album "Sublime Dementia" by French black/death metal band Loudblast! Oddly enough, I found this tape lost in the 99 cent bin at Kmart and not as some rare import, but I'm pretty sure it is a rare find, because any album which is nearly impossible to find on FT or Gnutella (but not on SoulSeek!) has to be a difficult item to hunt down. This was the last album I actually purchased, and it was certainly worth it, as it contains some of the most melodic yet heavy music I've heard in the genre.
