Here is some insight. Scroll to the bottom for the bottom line question.

I play a game called Age Of Mythology: The Titans and I'm not bad at all. However, everyone else thinks so because I cannot upload winning statistics. This has been going on for at least a month or two and I finally snapped. Since ESO (the company) just loves to make its users wait and wait to fix common problems, I searched on the internet for the solution.

Lo and behold, it IS a common problem.. if you keep Windows' security up to date. That's right, fixing a hole in Internet Explorer did this. This (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-004.mspx) one to be exact. Q832894 is the bastard child that won't go away.

I searched numerous forums for the answers on how to remove this update (that's right, I am willing to take away an important update to play my game again) and none are clear on how to remove it without Add/Remove Programs. It isn't there, and I tried uinstalling a bunch of other updates just to test (though I reinstalled them afterward).

http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=1498
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;839362

As you can see, this problem hasnt been resolved by the company yet.

BOTTOM LINE: I know it's there, because Q832894.cat exists in the Internet Explorer program folder. All I want to know is, how can I remove this (Q832894) ?

things not to tell me:
You shouldn't uninstall a security measure.
Use the Titans ZSL stat uploader

Thanks but it didn't hold any information I had not known already.

Here is a little picture summary I made of the problem itself. As you can see, it isn't anywhere to be (easily) found.

Microsoft makes alot of the security updates permanent (eg. NOT REMEOVABLE)
Thats why you cant find it in add\remove. Unfotunatly you have to wait until they solve it on thier own. Age is a Micro game so I am willing to bet they will have enough people complaining they wold want to fix it (being proprietary software and all)

I understand that. The problem is, I won't take it as the only answer.

Do you know how irritating it is to be kicked out of a game because your score is low ? Or the fact that half the games have a certain score marker you must be at to play ?

I will find a solution to this, or go mad trying.

when you updated and presses ok and i agree when you went along the update you agreed that the update is merged into the program and cant be uninstalled. most updates are ireversable.
only hotfix's can be uninstalled.

.
The easiest way to remove all of the Service Packs is to do an Inplace
Upgrade.
To do this:

Go into the BIOS and change your Boot Order. Make CD-ROM first.
Place your Installation Win2000 CD in the tray and restart your box.
When the posting is started, you can tap the spacebar, and enter install
When first prompted to Install or Repair, choose Install
After several more prompts you are asked if you want to Repair or go
forward with a
new install
This time choose "Repair"
The boot disk set is loaded and go from there.
After completion, you will need to install any SP's you care to do.
Also, you will need to reinstall I.E.6SP1, and it will be fresh (data and
settings

Or you could try and do a restore to a point before you installed Windows Update V4.

You can always remove it manually. There doesn't seem to be that much to it.

it's a bit more involved in that, the patch updated these files as well.

System Restore, a Windows XP feature, is similar to the "Last Known Good Configuration" in Windows NT and Windows 2000.

yeah, but unfortunately "Last known good configuration" doesn't go back that far :)

hope it works out for you mooney.

do you have all the stuff on your HD backed up?

if all else fails , and you really want this game to work....reformat and start from scratch!

hope you dont have to go that route!

I was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately, nothing else seems to work. Thanks to everyone who attempted to aid me or give me advice.

I am probably going the reformatting route. I just needed someone like yourself to kick me into doing it!

I misplaced my Win2k CD, so I'm acquiring a duplicate copy from everyone's favorite p2p app. Hopefully it doesn't come bundled with anything nasty.
