My Computer: I am running a ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe Mother Board with Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.60GHz 2.61Ghz possessor. 4GB of Ram. For my graphics card I am using ASUS V9950 Ultra V44.71 256MB.
My sound card is Audigy 2 Platinum Complete with a Bose 6.1 surround sound system that kicks ass.
Internally I have two Western Digital 250GB hard drives. One of my internal 250GB has been partitioned in half one part holding my operating system and the other half which holds all my programs. The second 250GB holds my storage for transferring VHS tapes to DVD disk. Externally I have one Western Digital hard drive and one external Maxtor 160 GB hard drive. I have two DVD – R RW+ Memorex disk drives and of course just one common floppy disk drive. I am running windows XP professional and have cable internet set at 3Mb, that is not counting the amount of cables running into my servers. I am Running through Linksys cable modem into a Linksys router that runs into my computer. I have a total 6 Led cooling fans four that push in and two that draws out. I also have two neon sticks inside on at the bottom and one at the top. And a Sony 17 Inch monitor.

So is my computer that I built.

Sounds like a lot of wasted space there. You could fit all that on a 10GB drive.

And 4GB of RAM? You don't need that much surely?

And why 2 DVD burners? You only need one, you could use the other IDE channel for another 250GB h/d.

What do you do for a living? This is a direct question.

Yes you are very direct and I like direct questions. So what I do for a living is I work for myself out of my home and sometimes outside my home depending on which job I am doing. Lets start with the easy stuff first. I have deals with surrounding box stores and computer stores as a computer set up man. What that means is when someone buys a computer and after they get it home they call me and I come out and set up their computer, printer and scanner if they have these items. Then if they want I hook them up with a internet provider in their area. I tend to find that out before I go out to the address because where I live it is mostly Charter Pipeline or Comcast in which If they have not already done so I go and get the cable modem and anything I need in order to complete my job. This whole job pays me $30.00 per-setup. Seeing that I live within between the three top cities we call them the tricities I have about 4 to 9 calls per-day and during the silly season I am over booked working as much as 18 hours per-day that is when I bring in my crew to ease up on the over flow.

If they want me to install software it is $10.00 for each software install. Make sure that they have their Antivirus installed and a proper firewall. I go over with them on how to use the internet and how to send email and so on. This all takes about an hour to do all of this. I just get everything hooked up as fast as possible and get on to the next job.

Second Job At Home: I really never wanted to get into this as much as I am at this moment but it is paying out the nose and it makes me a lot of money. I take people’s old VHS tapes and make them into DVD’s, now you want to talk about a boring job just try to imagine yourself setting in front of a computer all day and most of the night while your computer records hours of family videos. This job pays me $55.00 per-tape and $80.00 per-hour for any editing but I always seem to get soft and edit some that crap for free.

I keep the hard copy and then make copies for my customers. Their first copy is free then there is a charge of $5.00 or each additional DVD’s. This is what I do through the night is the editing part. It takes a lot of time to go through footage and cut out the bad things that are useless and just takes up to much time. I would be here all night telling you how it all works.
Depending on work loads I make anywhere from $2,500.00 Per-month or as high as $3,800.00 per-month. I have 3 employees that do computer setups they get $15.00 for each set up and I get $15.00 and they get the full amount for any software installs.

Then there come third Job: Computer repair, I know you are going to ask how I manage this lets just say I have two kids who work on minor repairs and another tech that has his own business repairing computers. I really don’t get that many calls for repairs outside the home and I can send the kids out on their bikes to do home repairs if they are within a five mile radius. And can you believe that this was all worked out by word of mouth? We have business cards and that is it.

That’s what I do for a living!

Depending on what you want to use your computer for and you pretty much know your way around inside of a computer you can build your own. I know this is going to sound like a lie but my daughter built her own computer when she was 8 years old and completely on her own. If she can do it anyone can. You have to know what you want though it is way cheeper. You could also look for a computer store that sells used computers.

It really doesn't get that hot remember I have six fans 4 going in and 2 pumping out, and if you want to count the power supply fans then I have 4 pumping out. Still trying to come up with a filter idea though to cut down on the dust flow thought about Pantie hoes but I think it would ger restricted a lot faster but it would cut down on the amount of dust inside.

Every month if I have the time I take my computer almost completely apart and clean out all the dust and grease the sliders inside the DVD drives and clean the lazers. If any of you have an idea for a filter system let me know.

Second----------> I run Kazaa Gold and it runs 24/7 open to anyone. I change the screen name everyday. I got Kazaa Gold from Liimewire. Kazaa Gold is just like Kazaa Lite but it was a what do you call it? a scam yeah that is the word a scam. But it works great. Pay for it! Are you out of your mind, I pity the dam fool that did pay for it. However let me tell you. It works just great and it is just like Kazaa lite there is no real difference between the programs of course some person might object to that statement.

Let me tell you a story: a long time ago when I was young and very stupid I traded my first car that my father bought for a piece of junk car. The reason I bought the car was the guy who was selling the car said to me it was a race car and very rare AMC Javelin no back seat but the car looked like real crap. Both front wheels were so out of shape there was a 6 inch difference between the top and bottom of the tires. But in my mind I thought of a new paint job and get the front end fixed repair and rebuild the engine and I would have a cool looking car.
We traded evenly up for my 1968 GTO that was in perfect shape for that piece of crap. I was all smiles when I drove out of the drive way and headed for home then a thought came to mind what was I going to tell my dad so I took a left turn and drove away from home towards my brothers home that was only five miles away. Sad but true that left turn would change the course of my life forever. While passing an intersection a dump truck T-boned me because he failed to stop at the stop sign and he was fully loaded. He hit me on the driver’s side and pushed me 75 foot down the road into a irrigation ditch and rolled over the top of me. I don’t remember much but the eyes of that dump truck and everything went black for me. It took them almost 6 hours to get me out from under that mess and the next thing I remembered was waking up and seeing my father looking at me and the first words out of his mouth was, I guess that Nova wasn’t good enough, Uh?

I spent that summer in the hospital and learning to walk all over again most of that fall. I was lucky to survive but every time I came home from school that winter the first thing I saw was that car or what was left of it. My father placed that car in our front yard as a reminder to me, more of a lesson. The next summer he had it towed away.

To this day I know now why he did what he did and that was to prove a point. To me was clear what it meant. My father never bought me another car I had to work for my second car. The day I drove up in the driveway with my new car he came out looked at the car and said. You think you made the right choice this time? I got out and looked at the car and said, I think so she runs well. My father made me take the car back and I got my money back and my brother drove me home. I went into the house looked at my father and asked him why he made me do that. The news paper went down and he said, when you traded that Nova for that other car did you know it was a good trade or did you think it was a good trade, and then he said, you must have thought it was a good trade but wasn’t sure right? I said something like that. News paper went up, if you would have been sure you would have been driving that car today right. I didn’t say anything but I understood what he meant, if your not sure don’t buy it. So about your question about Kazaa Gold, I think the answer is right above you.

Nice Computer, Did you build it your self?
no, most of it is OEM, I added the second 512 RAM to bring it up to a Gig, Added the 200 Gig HDD Tripling storage, added the Tuner card (turned out to be garbage) and the Tuner Box (nice unit, can't do recording but has no delay (so i can hook up a PS2 if i want) and operates even if the computer is off) also got the monitor, mouse, DVD+/-R(W) and round Antec ATA cables seperate. The Base system from eMachines was simply a better deal than i could get at the time building it myself (back a year and a half ago when The Radeon 9700 Pro was the hottest card available (rev 0) and the whole thing set me back $1000, I remember buying UT2k3 when it was very new for $60 just to see how hard i could push the system, and being very happy to get the "Holy Shit..shit...shit" announcement while setting display settings. As for sound the Realtek integrated sound is perfectly usable and has a hardware Equalizer and effects)

So about your question about Kazaa Gold, I think the answer is right above you. While that's an extremely enlightening story, surely my interpretation of it must be flawed. I don't see how an accident caused by the driver of a "fully-loaded" dump truck can be direct evidence of faulty judgement in purchase by exchange of the mentioned "racing" automobile. Although it may be somewhat amusing that your father elected to taunt you with the wreckage of the accident, I don't see any rational, or connective logic behind the action. Perhaps, in some way, your father can own some responsibility, as he may have taught you to undervalue a somewhat expensive object associated with growth and expansion, by merely handing it to you, when many must put forth a fair amount of effort to obtain it. (Instead of making such purchases, or offering silly life lessons, my father elected to disappear after spending a lengthy sentence in prison. As I remember it, my youngest brother was often fond of fruitlessly complaining about the fact that no one cared enough to purchase him a pair of new shoes. Wah. Give me a nipple. I "pity the damn fool" with fake gold jewelry, who actually gives a rat's ass about such pointless disclosures. Sometimes, there is really nothing to be gained from examining, emphasizing, broadcasting or dwelling upon ancient personal history.)

Some would agree, it's not what you have, but what you can do with what you have.

Very good reply on your part and I applaud you. This is what I love about this website a person with the right words on a intellectual level. You are right, why my father chose this form of punishment? ( Anyone? )

But seriously, this old gal has very little shop time. It actually runs VERY dependably.
My win98 boxes run with less downtime than my XP boxes. My XP boxes have the "bootup" problem. I have tried everything to get rid of the bootup problem, but nothing works.

Goes from boot-up to reset... then takes several times of selecting "Use last known configuration that works" to get the PC's to the welcome screen.

That issue alone is making me seriously consider Linux, and dump M$ for good.

My old computer was home-made, but the motherboard got zapped by an electrical surge, and I let it go so long without replacement It's not worth bothering now.
My next computer will either be a bargain gateway or hewlett packard or an apple emac, depending on how much money I have.

I don't know kind of area you are from but if you really want to save some money and get a good deal check some computer stores that sell used computers. They range any where from $200.00 and up and that is with everything. I really wouldn't worry that much about the what shape the computer is in. Most used computers are maybe just a year old or younger. My son builds a new computer almost every six months, but he build gaming computers, and then sells them at a store up here and they sell pretty fast.

The boot problem that you are having is this, tell if I am wrong, you turn on the computer and when it starts it comes up to the page that gives you different selections like start up in safe mode or configure computer to last know blaa blaa blaa . There are two ways to correct this problem.
When your computer first starts up hold down the delete key this should bring up your Bios adjustments. Go to boot tab and see what combination your computer boots from first. If it looks normal, (Normal Boot is, floppy, hard drive CD-Rom or CD-Rom hard drive and floppy). If you’re not sure, just hit the Default key. Then go back to your start page and there should be a settings key that is should say {Set Bios to Default} hit that and it will ask you if you are sure hit yes. Then exit and save changes.

Now if it was a bios problem then your computer should start up normally, it might take a long time for it to start up the first time but give it time. If you end up with the same page then you move onto step two. Go back to your Bios and make sure that your first Boot Drives is your CD-ROM Put your Widows XP disk in and reboot your computer. Hold down F8 just to be sure that it boots from your CD-R and you will get a window that will come up giving you the option to repair windows. Click on that and follow the directions. This will install windows and you won’t loose any data that you have stored on there.

These two steps could help you out. Give it a try.

exactly WHAT is the point of this Thread??

Well this is a thread and some times threads just go off topic for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes it is because people don’t understand or they do understand and want to be known. Then you have the problem starters, dictators, know it alls, demarcates republicans, and spies. Then you got people who like to just put their ten cents in.

This thread could go on and on a never land on the topic in which it started. People have the need for information and if they want they can ask a question that is linked to the thread but outside the topic. Then the thread might die and we all move on. For me, I don’t want any trouble and if some ask me a question I choose to answer that question or not. If someone is probing me for information that I think is out of line I am not afraid to tell them but I will do it nicely.

I learned from the past that you cannot argue in board rooms there is no point in it. Clearly there is no winner or a loser. Tempers flair and before you know it the Mod steps in and puts their foot down and stops it before it gets out of hand. We in here don’t have time for smart butts who think they own the place and can come in here and insult anyone it won’t be tolerated. That is why some topics and threads seem to go on and on. Of course I could ask that the mod removes the thread if I feel it is getting out of hand I leave that up to them.

If you come here for answers to your questions this is the place to be. But if you come here to cause problems then you might as well move on. Time stands still in a thread and it is only human nature to be forthcoming and ask questions. The thread started out as something new something new to talk about and it is going as it always does questions and answers. Some times it is better to discuss some matters outside the thread then to draw fire. If you think that this website is boring and does not hold any value then do what I do move on. There are some really good threads in here and thousands of questions and answers. You got some smart people who are in here just waiting to come out and put their two cents worth in here.

I got a second chance in here and I am not going to mess it up like I did before. I just learned, I learned not to take what any ones says personally, because if you do what is the point into fighting over it. Insults, name calling, where does it get you? No where just ticked off and you never hear the end of it. I hope and trust this answered your question. If not then ask another question. To be truthful with you I don’t know where this will end and I don’t care where it ends as long as it ends peacefully.

LOL My install has been running perfectly since May of 2002. Thats a pretty good run for a 98SE install. Most people I know have to wipe it clean after 4-6 months with 8 months 90% had to reinstall because it got so bad. But I know how to tweak my old gal :) It runs faster than my aunts 1GHz athlon with 128Ram.

Windows 98 has always been a good platform that is something we all know. Widows XP? I have been using it since it came out and to this day I have had a clean bill of health. The only thing that I don’t like about XP at first was the look it just didn’t set well with me and was to built up.

I have been reading articles about Widows next OS it seems promising but as we know nothing is as it seems. Like Windows Me holy crap talk about a computer worst nightmare. Microsoft is still getting in the rear about that OS. (Laughs) what worries me is the name of the new OS, Long Horn? What in the *ell is that? Something pulled out of the old west or a guys you know what. (Shakes head) Long Horn. Now we know how they come up with the new names, they must pull it out of a hat. That name worries me the most like Widows Me.

Doesnt MS name all of its projects after rivers or something? I thought thats where the name came from.

To me I think the 2 best windows OS's are 98SE(if you just want a functional system that is open to tweaking) and 2000(if you want more security and stability). I have a 2000 disc my girl made me but I just havent had the drive to install it. Maybe whenever this install eventually corrupts itself to badly, I will use partition magic and create a bi-OS pc. LOL

I wish that my parents would buy me parts for my computer but money's tight around here so I just end up with a slightly used computer. Refurbished ones and such from HP and Gateway look promising, you get about 200 dollars of a normally $1000 computer simply because for some reason it was returned. I will mostly need it for openoffice, online radio, dvds, *cough*downloaded*cough* movies and such. I am probably going to spend all of or a good chunk of my college time in europe or canada, learning french, so I do a lot of writing in french and stuff.

I am at boarding school right now and find that it _helps_ to have such a slow computer as there arent so many distractions such as games, myself being an avid gamer whilst at home...

I'm planning on being poor in college so I should probably get something that will last 4+ years, and will have to run Linux on it, which really isnt a problem anyways...
