This would be a great way to start this new section of the forums.

What are your favorite albums and maybe give a little review or comment. This could be a great way to discover new music.

All Led Zeppelin albums

Pink Floyd - "The Wall", "Wish You were here"

Metallica - "The Black Album", "Ride the lightning", "Reload"

All Tool albums

Soundgarden - "Superunknown"

Fuel - "Sunburn"

Neil Young - "After the gold rush", "Harvest"

Bush - "Sixteen Stone"

Guns n Roses - "Appetite for destruction"

Stone Temple Pilots - "Core"

Nirvana - "Nevermind", "In Utero", "Unplugged in New York"

Both "A Perfect Circle" albums (to date).

Creed - "My Own Prison", "Human Clay" (They destroyed themselves by making Weathered, and becoming hypocritical of their own message. And now, shitty live shows. They suck my left testicle).

The Goo Goo Dolls - "A Boy Named Goo" (Don't laugh, it was good)

Live - "Throwing Copper"

AC/DC - "Back In Black"

3 Doors Down - "The Better Life" (They've since produced an album that is 1/10th this effort. They're beginning to suck).

Pearl Jam - "Ten"

Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Californication", "Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik"

I know I missed some, but I don't feel like thinking right now (typical of me).

My favorite group of all time is Pink Floyd. I got into them back in Chico in the early 90's. A friend of mine and I did some shrooms one night and watched "The Wall". It was my first experience with PF. I had heard most of their songs on the radio over the years but I really didn't know much about them or the story behind "The Wall". While we were watching it I kept asking him "What the hell is going on?" He kept laughing and telling me to just pay attention. The next morning all I could remember about the movie was "Comfortably Numb" so I watched it a few more times and I've been consuming as much Pink Floyd as I can ever since. :) My PF collection is now close to 6 gigs of mp3's (studio albums, concerts, interviews, solo albums, compilations, etc) and several gigs of videos.

Depending on the type of music you like, there are several types of Pink Floyd that just might be what you are looking for.

My favorite is the spaced out trippy PF. "The Wall" and "Comfortably Numb" will always hold a special place in my heart, but I think I prefer their older songs over the newer stuff. Compared to the older stuff, the newer stuff seems to formulated. The older stuff is longer drawn out jams with very little words. "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun", "Echoes", "Careful With That Axe, Eugene", "Cymbaline"....pretty much anything from the Live In Pompeii video...are just incredible songs.

Albums to get if you like the spaced out trippy PF:
Atom Heart Mother - 1 star. One of their worst albums. "Atom Heart Mother" is a long jam (~ 30 minutes) but it doesn't rank up there with some of the better jams. "Alan`s Psychedelic Breakfest" is just horrible The rest of the songs are good, but more pop sounding.

Saucer Full of Secrets - 2 stars. Has "Set The Controls...." and "A Saucer Full Of Secrets" which are good, but they are the studio versions. The live versions are way better.

Meddle - 4 stars. Awesome album! "Fearless" is one of my top 3 pop songs, but this album is best known for "One of These Days I'm Going To Cut You Into Little Pieces" and "Echoes". Very nice version of Echoes.

More (Soundtrack) - 3 stars. Most of the songs on this album are short, around 4-5 minutes, but there's some great spaced out instrumentals.

UmmaGumma - 4 stars. It's a double album, but you can pretty much throw away the second CD. It's by far the worst PF album, but the first CD makes up for it big time! Killer versions of "Astronomy Domine", "Careful With That Axe, Eugene", "Set The Controls For The Heart Of the Sun", and "A Saucer Full Of Secrets".

Albums to get if you like a little mix between the long spaced out jams and formulated radio songs:
Piper At The Gates Of Dawn - 1 star. Their first album and not a very good one. "Intersteller Overdrive" is ok on this album, but it's one of my favorite live songs.

Dark Side Of The Moon - 4 stars. This album was on the top 100 album charts for over 10 years. "Time", "Us And Them", "Money". All incredible songs. There's also a song called "The Great Gig In The Sky" which is a 4+ minute orgasm. You have to hear it know what I'm talking about. :) Their first real "concept album" as well, and like most of them it is about Syd Barret...one of their founding members who went completely insane. :cross

Animals - 4 stars. Another concept album, but this one isn't about Syd, it's about work, the world, and politics. Great album. "Dogs" is a great song, especially if you've ever worked for a large corporation.

Wish You Were Here - 4 stars. A concept album about Syd Barrett. Syd actually showed up during the recording of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". Nobody had seen him in years and they didn't recognize him for about an hour or so. He mentioned to them that he was ready to join the band again and then he left and they haven't seen him since. "Welcome To The Machine" and "Wish You Were Here" are classics!

Obscured By Clouds (Soundtrack) - 2 stars. It's an ok album. Only a couple memorable songs on it. "Free Four" is on the radio every once in a while.

Albums to get if you want to get depressed:
The Wall - 4 stars. Their greatest concept album, and probably the greatest ever from anybody. Just an incredible job of writing by Roger Waters. The movie is also just as incredible. Every single song on the the double CD is awesome and a necessary part of the overall story...although the movie leaves out a few songs and moves the order around a bit

The Final Cut - 3 stars. A concept album that extends the message from "The Wall". Most, if not all, of the songs on this album are songs that didn't make it onto "The Wall". It's a hard album to listen to, very whiney and depressing. There are still some great songs on it, though.

And then there's the After Waters Pink Floyd where they aren't really concept albums, but they aren't pop songs and they aren't really spaced out jams either...it's like they are trying to find their own groove. As long as you don't go in expecting too much you won't be disappointed:
Momentary Lapse Of Reason - 3 stars. Most songs are very good on this album. "Learning To Fly" is great!

The Division Bell - 3 stars. Their last studio album to date. Very much like Momenatary Lapse Of Reason. Some very good songs on this album.

Wow...this started out as a small post. :tilted

Pink Floyd - "The Wall", "Wish You were here"I've listened to both of these albums litereally thousands of times. The genius is incredible and they sure don't make them like they used too. My favorite 2 Floyd albums, followed closely by Dark Side, Animals, and Momentary Lapse.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have all of the albums you mentioned, I just didn't want to make my list "too long." My favorite track from "Efil4zaggin" was B*tches 2. Naively, I was part of a group of people at work who consistently swapped CDs and some of my (and their) stuff wound up lost/stolen. My "R U Still Down? (Remember Me)" was stolen among others.

Talking Heads - Naked
Talking Heads - Little Creatures
Santana - Shaman
That was longer than I expected.......that's what I would put on my iPod (if I had one) if I was going to be away from home for months or years..... spend way too much time just listening to music...but can't stop! In a lot of ways these albums seem like they couldn't be more different from each other but the theme really is that it's music made by real musicians who are either brilliantly gifted and/or brilliantly inspired, mostly both....and however much you love him it's hard to remember Joe Strummer as a great singer...or realise how great a drummer Topper Headon is....and it's too easy to forget that Jimi Hendrix was a great singer as well as the most talented and unique guitarist and blues artist. A current guitar player of incredible talent is Djelimady Tounkara....maybe you won't have heard anything quite like this before. Nigel Kennedy's Kafka is one of the strangest albums you could ever hear...if you are open to the most unexpected combinations of genres it might appeal...sometimes it seems like 70s progressive rock...and also mediaeval song at the same time....hard to describe and very very weird...but every now I get it out and play it and it just mesmerizes me. Not sure how Talking Heads got in there twice.....but I'll never forget hearing And She Was and knowing immediately it was all about an acid trip...it was a certain stage of my life that involved a lot of little square things with funny pictures on...ahem...spent much of that time listening to Jimi Hendrix and never never never wanting to stop.

Bend down I order you
Turning your face back from me too
I don't need to see it now
Bend down

A biped who is on all fours
I'll lead him down on the floor
In quick-step we move along
I'm so displeased
Now crawling backwards to meet me
Honey stains his tights so badly
I'm so displeased, Sadly displeased

Bend down...

I've no interest in the rest
The biped stuttered a short prayer
In fear of what I couldn't bear
Tried to bend down more and more
Tears were running off to the floor

Bend down...

Bend down I order you
Turning your face back from me too
I don't need to see it now
Bend down, you know how

Archetype - Fear Factory

Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia - Dimmu Borgir

Clint Black's Greatest Hits - Clint Black...(Duh...lol)

La Masquerade Infernal - Arcturus

S.E.T.I - The Kovenant

In Times Before Light - The Kovenant

These are just a few of my favorite albums. If I sited them all, there would be a list a mile long...lol...so anyway, here's a few albums that should be given recognition.

Black metal is almost more like a religion than a genre of music.Even in the style of music videos that I've seen, I think it was a Dimmu Borgir video, and it was super big-budget with lots of effects and directing - I could tell the fan base for that stuff must be huge compared to harder metal in the USA. What's your loc? 'scuse the ignorance if I should know what BFE is :)

LOL...........B.F.E. - Bum Fuck Egypt (Boonies/Middle of nowhere)

Actually I live in Indiana

And about that music video, it was probably Dimmu Borgir's "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse". That music video is my favorite. Unfortunatly, Dimmu Borgir is not "main stream" so they have not produced many music videos, but lets see what the future will bring.

Three favorite albums:

1. Metallica - Master of Puppets

Even Load, Reload, and their attack on Napster still can't detract from their greatest accomplishment. A great album the whole way through, and "Disposable Heroes" is, in my humble opinion, one of the most underrated songs ever and my favorite Metallica track of all time. I noticed a lot of you voted for ...And Justice For All - great album, but terrible production...in my eyes Master of Puppets is Metallica at their best.

2. Black Sabbath - Paranoid

"Iron Man". "Electric Funeral". Two of the heaviest, most sinister riffs ever written. Period. Some great mellower moments, and an incredible drum solo. This album just never seems to get old.

3. System of A Down - System of A Down

It's a shame that this band would get lumped into any category (especially nu-metal), because there's really no one that sounds like them. Every song tries something different, yet it all makes sense when you hear it. An incredible debut.

DJ Sammy - Heaven is by far my most favorite album. I've listened to it so many times, and it never gets old. Great to relax my mind....its very calming and makes me feel like I'm floating through space.

Past that its hard to take favorites....I've got nearly 60 gig of music.

I don't know I'd put 2001 over the original Chronic album.... so there is another

Dr. Dre - The Chronic
Creed - My own prison (fuck off, I enjoyed that album...)

It's hard to decide.... though I just put out what I listen to beginning to end.

And the whole black metal being a cult thing... sure... I agree. I hate that shit like I hate going to church, so that description fits. But... I admitted liking Creed... so who cares. I do enjoy some selected thrash and the such here and there, but not yet an entire album.
