I don't know if anyone has posted this before. The govt is planning on forcing policeware on all computer owners in the US. Click here for more info and link to petitiions opposing
it.http://www.stoppoliceware.org/

Since alternative operating systems like Linux and FreeBSD would most likely refuse to incorporate government policeware into their code, users of these open-source systems would also be eligible for hard time.

It's open source. Sure they can incorporate it in, but i'll take it out before compiling.

Seen that on the Nsane web site. Hopefully some of you will join the fight against this because it will open the door for hackers in your computer.

Yeah! But if I read right, tampering with policeware would mean a jail term of 5 years.

Man, I've never heard of this before, but if this is for real, that seriously sucks... there is no way anyone going to limit what I can and can't do with my computer!

(btw, syntax, welcome to ZP :) )

So, if this policeware comes into effect, can we rename the USA to China?

THOMAS Legislative Information on the Internet (archived bill information 1973 to present)

According to Thomas, this bill (s. 2048) was introduced on 2002.21.03 in the 107th Congress, and was merely referred to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. To locate information on the bill using Thomas (Jefferson), access the bill query for the 107th congress, url http://thomas.loc.gov/bss/d107query.html, and enter s. 2048 for the first field labeled "Bill, Amendment, or Public Law Number". It would seem that the bill never came close to being "law".
