We all knew it was too good to last, and the new Heritage Minister in Canada vows to stop downloading as quickly as possible.

Quote from a Globe And Mail article:Music downloaders may have a short honeymoon from potential prosecution as the new federal Heritage Minister has promised to punish music file sharers. ''We are going to make sure that downloading stays illegal,'' said Helene Scherrer, a rookie Quebec MP sworn in as minister last December. ''We will make it a priority so it is done as quickly as possible.''Officials at Heritage Canada, in tandem with Industry Canada, will soon meet to draft legislation to amend a loophole in the Copyright Act that permits music downloading, Ms. Schérrèr said in a recent interview.

What I found interesting was the refference to downloading, and not just uploading. That plainly goes against the tarrifs in place on recordable media here, IE blank Cds, MP3 players, and hard drives. Which were put in place to provide compensation to musicians. If they try and stop downloading they will loose.

The levies are a strong argument against outlawing
The good minister needs to shove a sock in her mouth, this is not like the Riaa saying there getting ripped off. The levies were negotiated for "fair use" with agreement by Cria. Downloading is NOT illegal in canada, EVEN PEOPLE WHO DONT BURN MUSIC PAY FOR THE RIGHT TO DO SO.
Whats funny Hunter is if they do outlaw it outright, watch them still try to collect the levies on blank media. Damn thieves. @least the americans dont have to pay such a levy AND get sued for thier troubles.

The Conservatives are on the gain because of the liberals love of media worthy screwups
(so do the conserves but they arent in power yet so ignore them)
