Hi there.

I'm an editor for a new magazine that covers digital entertainment. I'm seeking people who use Waste to find out how they use it. I will guarantee your anonymity. Please email me at blindedbyspam@mindspring.com.

Thanks.

Excuse my cynicism, but I am very leary of purported reporters asking members for info. My suggestion is to PM one of the admins, for their approval. Thanks for your anticipated cooperation.

I understand your leariness. I'd be happy to prove to anyone who emails me that I'm a journalist with 10 years of experience.

Thanks.

what do you want to know that you can't figure out? i layed out how to make yourself as anonymouse as you can with waste in a post a few days ago , have you formed your own mesh?

i too am leary to talk to a reporter, this is the 3rd one who is asking ( or maybe all the sameone at the homeland security office). i'd only talk dirrect with indypendent media who could prove their anti-capitalist merits by sharing copyrighted files. the rest are just corperate cogs.

I have used Waste and am familiar with how it works. But I'm not writing a review, I'm writing a story about how people use it, how they form networks. And for that, I need to speak with users.

I understand your mistrust and lack of displeasure with most reporters, and I'll understand if you don't want to speak with me. As I said, I can prove who I am and that I have 10 years of experience. I'm hoping that'll be enough to encourage someone here to talk with me.

My opinion is unless you prove you are a file sharer, you will not be trusted. Not being rude, just a statement of fact. That is why i thought it best for you to PM one of the admins first for approval.

I think its pretty self explanatory. Some people use the public network, others form their own groups for various intents and purposes. Friends might use it to connect themselves, hoping to be a little more secure than just using a LAN, say.

we dont waste our time with waste.. =)
I never used it or will ever use it. I dont think anythings a 100 percent anonymous. For the most part, you never know whos behind the computer your downloading from, or if people are caught of infringing. they may get a warrant, arrest somebody, and sit their and wait to you get home to start talking and seeing what you have to share.

Sounds like you want to talk more about how people form private networks with WASTE and not about the content on these networks at all so there is really no reason for anyone to be worried about anything which im assume that if they dont want their full name printed then that wouldnt be a problem.

I dont use waste but hopefully you can someone who does to help you out.

Yes, exactly. I don't need to know what content you're sharing. I just want to know if you think it's a good program, how you get invited on, etc.

I don't think you should limit yourself to WASTE as it is not the most widely used form of 'protecting' privacy. People believe in blocklists that are 'supposed' to protect you from major corporations although this is very questionable. Networks such as Filetopia that use encryption give you 'file' anonymity, meaning your ISP cannot snoop on what files you are uploading/downloading. MUTE is a relatively new system, which uses a proxy-type network to avoid direct connections to users, which is supposed to 'help' make you anonymous. Freenet is the most sophisticated Anonymous P2P system although with the current bandwidth capabilities of most users, it is not very practical. People also use proxies in clients that support them, such as Morpheus, to gain a layer of anonymity when downloading/uploading (although I am not sure if Morpheus supports proxy uploading) You also forget to mention all of the other private networks that are formed that don't use an extra layer of authorization like WASTE does. Private DC networks are very common yet they don't get much discussion on sites like Zeropaid.

Limiting yourself to WASTE is a mistake.

dangme, what is your currently allotted budget for this project? Is there a min. count of users desired, from which to retrieve this information? Can you disclose the name of the publication here?

private messages on forums like this one, private messages in p2p programs, email between friends, private invitation via friends etc.

if you don't know someone you don't get in, ala studio 54

The publication is Mjuice, a new magazine that covers digital entertainment. mjuice.com has a prototype of what we're doing, and the article I'm working on will run in our first issue, out in the next 2 weeks.

Ideally, I'd like to speak to 3 or 4 users, but I'll take what I can get.

Personally, I Think It Would Be More Interesting To See You Do A Report On IRC Networks, And File Trading Over Them. IRC Is An Old Technology, That Has Continued To Exist, Partly Due To The Fservs, XDCC's, And Other Forms Of File Serving Scripts/Bots That Utilize The IRC Network For Trading Files.

i hear you but it's not that people wouldn't want you to see their content it's that people would like to see yours ;) and you seem curious and it would be fathomable to me that you would put somthing in your piece about what you thought.think.might know is being shared. not traded but mutual aided.

as far as is it a 'good' program. i have been calling journalists out lately because i am not one for using moral judgment. it's recognized a integral part of a alienating system of violent communication and domination that breeds fundamental extremist like you see in all levels of authority over others(, oughs shoulds have tos you know aftsprache). to imply a good or bad that is or use morals for reportive misrepresentation . but i'm more than happy to talk about how waste meets my needs and and how it makes me feel. autonomy security trust , empowered peaceful and inspired, about my and your ability to form anarchistic hierarchy free meshes.

waste is a form of anarchy in action and it shows what beauty is in radical social organization. a word reporters always try to play class warrior with. i mean do you reporters get a bonus for misusing the word , i've always wondered?

y look and talk about again whats been know about for a while, the archaic centralized lands of old, usenet irc etc.
i think mjuice is looking for the newest most revolutionary idea, the pure p2p , ya?
waste is also a very big buzz word now too.

Well, Not Everyone Knows What IRC Is. Sure, Your Average Serrious Downloader May, But Not Every Member Of The General Public. Considering That There Are Lots Of Stories About P2P Software, Users, Networks, Why Not Something More On IRC, Or Trading On FTP, Something Less Known About To Your Average Not-So-Informed Computer User Who May Not Have A Clue About Some Of Thoes Things.
