Can’t start Napster even as an internal player. Any solutions to fix it?
Thanks.

Are we talking the original Napster or Napster 2.0? And what do you mean, internal player? Be a little more specific, and we hopefully should be able to help you.

I’m talking about an original Napster. Since they were shut down and Napster couldn’t connect to server I still could use it just as a player for MP3 files on my comp. Not anymore.
A few weeks ago I tried to start Napster, it couldn’t connect to server as usually, but also couldn’t play my MP3s. Pop up window says: “Unable to contact Authorization Server: server.napster.com!” Main window is inactive. Then the only option is to close everything.
I just want to keep using it as a player, like Windows Media Player.
Current version is v2.0 Beta 10.4, but I tried to download and install almost all previous versions – the same results.
Thank you for trying to help.

I hate to say it, but why on earth do you want to keep using it as a player?! There are so many better alternatives (iTunes, Winamp, foobar, even WMP).

Yeah, I'm with you on that one, nasrules.
Get another player, such as Winamp (www.winamp.com), Windows Media Player (www.windowsmedia.com), iTunes (www.itunes.com), Real (www.real.com), or any of the other ones out there (http://www.zeropaid.com/php/filesharing.php?id=73).
If you want to keep using Napster, well, I believe there are ways to make it connection with other servers (sorry, I joined the p2p scene after Napster died), but there are apps out there that work better and have a smiliar feel to it. If I'm not mistaken, WinMX works similar to Napster and using the same protocalls (please correct me if I'm wrong).

That is correct. WinMX uses the protocol that allows you to connect to OpenNap servers, as well as the WinMX network by default. As far back as I can remember about the original Napster, WinMX and it are the same, except for the fact that WinMX allows multi-source downloading. I don't believe WinMX has an mp3 player, but any shared files you can double click and it will start an external player, such as WinAMP. There was a program out there during the time of Napster that allowed you to control the program and tell it which OpenNap server to connect to, instead of the broken Napster one now. Let me do a little research to see if it's still in operation, or still available for download.

Is there any way to make it work just as a player without connecting and downloading from any server?
Thanks

Works just fine.
