I've been downloading alot of full Mp3 albums lately but have been finding that about 4 out of 5 of them dont work. Are these fake files or damaged files or something? I'm guessing this is probably a normal thing with full albums on most P2P clients that i have only just discovered?

The only other thing is that as a last resort i tried to use audio converter to change the format and i get an error "Unable to decode a buffer"? Can i fix the file?

Thanx.

are you sure they are mp3 files?

do a google search for Encspot and check to see if they are valid mp3 files. You might have a mp3 that is compressed with winrar or 7zip or something else.

Their definately MP3's. Just ran that program and everything seems to be fine although when i try to render them with Gspot they fail? Im guessing the files have just been tampered with or something? Does anyone know of any software to fix audio files?

I downloaded a couple today that work fine so i guess its just hit or miss. Its just a bit weird after downloading hundreds of single songs with no problems then suddenly having so many corrupt files.

Multisourcing or swarming downloads (aka BT, Kazaa, most other p2p)
can very definatly cause corruptions in your files especially if they have been paused and resumed and you should consider that one person might have the bad data and sent you a s#itty packet, corrupting the downoad as well.
Some progs like BT have an option to reject bad data or Connections amd this
largely fixes that problem but as fore mentioned the pausing and resuming files
can do the same thing to screw it up. It is a bit of hit or miss I guess
but try, try again right? So for the short I would say perhaps people have had a lot of bad data chunks in thier files if you have had alot. Also try defragging your hard drive, it might not seem relevant but its kinda trippy how much happier your computer can be. Cheers!

what file sharing system are you using and downloading? if its kazaa, or shareaza. . Fake files are increasing on those networks.

what media player are you using to play these mp3 files. Some media players are not very forgiving of corrupt mp3's. I use winamp and foobar the most and winamp definately is most forgiving of corrupt mp3 headers, which might be the problem. Foobar can also correct and fix corrupt mp3 headers. Give it a shot.

Thanx rickio, foobar works great. I was having trouble playing them with WMP and i just ran the 'Fix Mp3 Header' on all the files in foobar and now they run fine with WMP :D

I think your right moneoa. Generally all the files are from multi users, stopping and starting all the time. Maybe the files that worked were a 'clean' download off of a single person? More than likely just a few corrupt packets here and there i guess. I've given BT a run but the cons seem to outweigh the pros; the main one being 512k's just doesnt seem to be efficiant enough to get anything done quickly. And maybe it was just my bad luck but i managed to find a trojan off of every second file i downloaded off Suprnova...

Hey shawners.. I'm running WinMX. I tried DietKazza and stoped using it for the same reason in that there seemed to be too many bogus files; but also strangely enough i never seemed to be able to find anything as easily on FastTrack as i could on WinMX.

Anyway thanx everyone.
