using same emule on notebook n desktop

Hi All

I've been using eMule on my desktop for some time and have all the incomplete files etc on my external hard drive. When I connected this to my notebook I tried connecting to eMule but I got a message saying I had a low ID and need to check my settings/configurations. I have version 0.42c will update to the d version soon.

Does anyone know how to rectify this problem? I have a lot of incomplete files so I rather not start again.

The low-id message is unrelated to the issue of transfering your temporary files

To get a high id you need to configure your firewall, NAT router or connection sharing system so that emule can receive incoming connections on the port numbers set in preferances.

The low ID thing is not such a big problem anyway, it sounds worse than it is. It just means that your eMule client is or appears to be firewalled. This means that other users with low ID will not be able to upload to you and vice versa. Low ID clents make up around 15 to 20% of the ed2k network so it isn't the end of the world. Chances are you can fix it.

There is an eMule Low ID Help here (http://www.emule-help.com/id.htm) . It's a good place to start.

If you have set up eMule but it doesn't see your pre-existing temp files that's easy to fix. Bring up your eMule client. Press Alt+X to bring up a sub menu and one option is to import your part files, just navigate to their location and eMule will do the rest. Alt+X has some very important features but it is kind of obscure, don't know why.

Thanks for the help guys. I've followed the help pages and the problem has remained unresolved. Will give it another go at the weekend. I don't mind getting a low ID, as on the fat day I had it I managed to d/l over 800MB in 24 hours of running eMule. Since then it's been like 3MB over 24 hours.

I have a LAN where the server has 98SE and my laptop has XP. Having a network probably makes it more complicated for this. Not sure what would happen if the server was upgraded to XP though.

I wonder if changing the network settings so that it's a standalone would affect this ID status....
