My ISP is searching for ppl who are sharing the latest movies and software and are sending them legal warnings :(. I've just received one of them and I'm in deep shit from my parents. But after surviving so long on eMule, I can't live without it!
My friend says there's a mod on eMule that disallows sharing, including those files that are being downloaded. I've found a link to this mod here (http://members.lycos.co.uk/emuleguide/emule.php). Is it really possible? I always thought that eMule forces you to share what you're downloading, but apparently this isn't true. Think I'll start using this mod to be safe from the RIAA and whatever...

You can disable sharing partial files, but your partial files will still show up on other people's queue. Don't think you will be safe using that mod.

But as long as I'm not uploading any file, I should be safe rite? Unless my ISP actually pretends to share file and then sees me in his download queue, then I can be detected...
anyway, don't know about you but I'll feel much safer with this mod..

No, you won't be safe. Look when you are downloading a file, and hit the + to expand the list. That will show all the people that have the file, whether or not theirs is actually uploading.

Please trust me, I got a letter from my ISP using that same emule mod. Your files still show as shared, and you are not safe, even if you have sharing disabled.

Sorry, but that's the way it is.

Hmm, i thought that list only shows a list of ppl that are sharing the file? Since my mod is not sharing the file, I don't think my client will show up on that list.

That's exactly what I thought too. Don't say I didn't warn you. ;)

Oh ok.. i'll do some experimentation and see how it goes..
But i'm quite sure I should be safe. Cos in this mod my downloads do not even show up in the shared files list in emule..

If you go on the ed2k network with a client modded to only download I hope you get caught again.

Ignore warnings and see how that goes. If it doesn’t go well then change ISPs

Thats right. If the store cuts off the customer, you go to a different store. Its that simple. Its time they get reminded that the customer is the boss.

hey I'd just like to say that the isp's are doing their damnedest to protect our rights(well most of them are) It's not their choice to send you the dmca violation notices. it's the law.

I think Psilaxs was simply saying sarcastically to ignore the warnings that vipp gave damei3 regarding eMule sharing partials. This guy is so sure he'll be safe he shouldn't of asked in the first place then.

I think he fails to understand that even having a piece available for share, showing that it is shared, even if it ends up that you can't dl it, is still enough to garner a response...

actually there is a hacked version of emule that completely disables sharing, but people shouldn't know about it.

I'm just saying what's happened to me and sharing what I found out with others who might be in the same situtation as me. It's up to you guys to decide on whether to risk it or not... I dun care whether you can caught.
