I've seen the original, I don't think the new one will be able to beat it.

It's ****ng amazing. And this is coming from someone who has been a fan of the genre since Night of the Living Dead 1968.

People complain because it doesn't follow the original to the T, it has running zombies and humans only turn into zombies after being bitten. These people aren't open minded enough and well probably hate it indefinitely.

For those who are looking forward to it you will not be disappointed. It's ****ing FANTASTIC!!!

EDIT: Didn't realise that swear word wasn't automatically censored and my post made me look like a moron. :)

I love horror movies but you know people today arent gonna bye the lurking, strolling zombies that the characters just cant seem to escape. I cant wait to go see it.

Yeah, it will be cool to see back of "Dawn of the dead"! I have seen original, and it was great! I hope new "Dawn of the dead' will be much more better!

But I have to say, that I haven't seen nothing better than "evil dead".

'Evil Dead' is fun to watch (especially the second part) but you cannot really compare it to 'Night of the Living Dead' and 'Dawn of the Dead' which are very smart movies full of social criticism... I hope the new one doesn't try to make a splatter movie from it.

should be alot better since costumes, animation, special effects have improved drastically for the last 10 years.

That's true. I never really liked the Evil Dead movie because it was too far fetched. I like my horror / sci-fi to be believeable to a degree. Romero's movies have that believeability, as does DOTD 04.

I saw the 10 min preview..the only thing I didn't like was that you become a zombie as soon as you die..like in seconds...no 1/2 hour wait....to make sure your dead.

I am a fan of the Zombie Genre... and I enjoyed this film immensely. I was hesitant at first (running zombies? come on), but the movie was good on many levels. Visually, the film was stunning, and it did have zombies getting their heads blown off (always a plus). They were able to show the world falling prey to the zombies in a rather disconcerting manner better than any zombie flick I have seen (much more chaotic than the recent 28 days later).

I would tell people that were fans of the original that it is not as much a remake as a reimagining. It shares similar thematic elements, but they aren't the same characters or events. I would go and see this if you are a fan of George Romero's original zombie mythos (perhaps this will allow him to create his fourth movie in the "dead" series), post-apocalyptic suspense, or action movies with things going BOOM!

(Edit... BTW, my new avatar is a part of a person blowing up a watermelon on a helmet on his head, not a zombie having its head blown off... I am not sick y'know)

Two different movies that are both great but for different reasons.

Evil Dead II - A++ Great satirical horror flick. Classic.
Dawn of the Dead - A++ Greatest zombie flick of all time. Classic.

Do go watch them both.

The title of this thread is misleading... Dawn of the Dead topped Passion this week. Not to imply Dawn of the Dead's first weekend was better than Passion's. It's just that Passion was at #1 for the last 3 weeks, and Dawn finally brought it down with $28 million. Passion got some triple-digit millions for it's first weekend....

All of the above movis sound great (save "Passion") I don't know if I saw the original yet, but I am interested in the remake. Actually, I may have that movie on an old videocassette. May have to give it a gander. The Evil Dead series rocked. I also thought Evil Live was great. Talk about blood fest.

Might you be talking about DEAD ALIVE, the first film by LOTR Director Peter Jackson? This is the bloodiest, most violent film that I have ever seen. This movie features a classic moment in cinema when the protagonist walks through a group of zombies with a lawnmower strapped ot his chest and realizes that there are still many, many zombies left, so he turns around and walks through the crowd of zombies again!!

LMAO... YEAH! That's it. I double checked it on Google. It seems it was originally called Braindead. But many versions were made for different countries and the American version was DEAD ALIVE ( I was prolly thinking of a Danzig album). The version that poeple saw was one that barely made an R rating. Supposedly it was toned down quite a bit.

Here was the review I was looking at: http://www.dvdreview.com/html/dead_alive.html

I remember the lawnmower scene along with many others. Too damn funny.

I also recall a priest in the movie saying something along the lines of "I Kick Ass for the Lord!"

I was surprised to learn that Jackson made it. I will have to try and get my hands on the uncut version.

I forgot about that priest... the whole movie is damned funny.

I remember finding the unrated version in a video store when I was in High School... I rented it twice, which is odd for me (I am not a big fan of watching a movie more than once in a three year window). The unrated version is filled with blood! I can't even imagine what they must have cut to get an "R."

BTW... an aside, but similar, I rented Scarface to see what the hype was about and watched the special features. There was a featurette about the making of the TV-version of Scarface, it was HILARIOUS! My wife and I ask each other lines from the TV version every once in a while since they were so absurd (ie "Did you get that scar eating pineapple?" instead of "eating pussy" and this town is like a "chicken waiting to be plucked" instead of a "pussy waiting to be fucked") The feature is worth a rental (although it is only like 10 minutes long).

Holy shit man, was that really Peter Jackson from LOTR?? There was a recent BT seed on this flick, out of curiousity I bit and it was nuts. I saw Peter Jackson's name but assumed it must've been some other Peter Jackson, not THE Peter Jackson...:)

Erm, Evil Dead II. Yes, it's a remake of Evil Dead. But it makes the original look pants in comparison. You better be nodding you head in agreement.

I want to see this mother-fuckin' movie. Pardon my French. I too have seen the 10 min sampler, looks like the business.

Actually, Peter Jackson's first movie was called, "Bad Taste". It came out in '87 or '88. If you haven't seen it, get it.

28 Days Later is kind of a rip-off, it uses a number of ideas from Dawn of The Dead, Day Of The Dead and Resident Evil. However it manages to create a nice atmosphere. Storywise, 28 Days Later is rather shallow IMO.

Braindead was much better than Bad Taste, - and Braindead was actually the movie using the most pig blood ever.
