Recently I have been running 2 machines on WinMX. I have networked XPhome and Pro and they are both behind an D-link604 router. After I was sure all my ports were closed I disabled the XPfirewall. To my amazment WinMx no longer crashes the way it allways had before. Over 300 hours without a crash and before it was about every 20hours or so. Am I crazy

Are you running a secondary or primary connection now? With ports closed you cannot run a primary connection, only a secondary. You will get better results and performance from WinMX with a primary connection.

most people only run secondary.

use port forwarding on the router to open up the ports winmx needs (6699?), it will improve your search results tremendously.

it doesn't surprise me that the winxp firewall causes problems... yet with this same firewall ms expects to eliminate all the worms that cripple their os... yea right. when it causes things to crash, people are going to turn it off anyway.

if its the winxp firewall, I'm not surprised.

either way, if its not that, it isn't a bug. though if it is the winxp firewall, you might want to try another firewall to use while on winmx when xpf is disabled. its always good to keep teh 1337 |-|4x0r5 out. unless an add on firewall causes problems.
