hey, i was using DC++ and it was great but then i think the university found out about it and blocked it. i can no longer connect. I used to connect in passive mode. will i remedy the problem by changing to active mode????

If not, what other file sharin applications can i use, kazza doesnt work any more.

I need help. i really need to download some things.

Thanks very much,

Sbear

Well That's too bad, because I'm a big DC++ fan too! I would suggest emule because of it's selection of files; But it's just TOO SLOW! I use WinMX with Open Nap; its good but it takes some time & u need awhole harddrive of files to share!

Prob is many Uni's now passive monitor capacity & number of connections. So if you are using any program that has a large amount of data transfer and of P2P connections, they will either investigate who, or just shut down the ports. Its all part of the antivirus/trojan/hacker stuff. If you find something that works, you'll need to limit number of connections preferably.

you could move off campus and buy your own connection

other than that, you're screwed

You could always go into active and find the ip out and then enter a port which is not used. This option helped me when i was at school.

How about some proxy service like AnonX? Cheaper than commercial broadband I guess.
