I started using Soulseek (153 i think - the newest version) a couple of days ago and I'm mighty impressed with the amount of rare stuff I've been able to d/l. However, the program crashes after a couple of hours and I have to resart it. Anybody else having this problem, or is it possibly a conflict on my system?
Pentium 4
1 gig ram
XP home
also running Emule0.30e
Norton antivirus

id uninstall and install kazaa lite maybe that would be ok if your definition of "rare" was anything not on the top 40 list, but im sure thats not the case. slsk is kinda buggy. some things that i have found to alieviate this type of problem are to not share as many files (i know thats not a great reccomendation, but it will help), and maybe take out some of the really large files like .iso and .bin files... slsk wasnt intended to be used for massive files like that anyway. ive also noticed that when you search for somthing that produces alot of results, it will hang for a few seconds. if all that doesnt work, maybe you could raise slsk's thread priority (assuming you have XP). you can do this by opening the task manager (ctrl alt del) > processes tab > right click slsk.exe > set priority. whatever you do, do not put it at realtime. i wouldnt reccomend 'high' either. since slsk is so buggy, if you have it set to realtime or high, once slsk crashes, your whole PC will crash.
hope that works.

Soulseek is a bit buggy. It also has a harsh memory leak. If you run something else that tends to use a lot of memory it could cause it to crash. However you have a gig of RAM, so... I'm not sure if that is your problem. There is a patch somewhere in the slsk forums that will automatically restart slsk when it crashes (just search it before you ask, some of the people in the forums can be rude). I know that may not fix the situation, but it does help I guess.
When you first start up slsk, back up all of your cfg files if you tend to lose you queues, hotlist or personal info when slsk crashes. That could help too.

Thanks for the replies (except the Kazaa lite suggestion). It was suggested in another forum to change the compatibility to win98. I did this and Soulseek has been running for 12+ hours without crashing, grabbing files like crazy.

yes... I remember reading something like that. Fortunately, I don't have too many problems with it personally, except for occasional temporary freezes.

BTW... when I said that people in the forums could be rude... I was talking about the slsk forums... not these forums. I just realised how that looked when I re-read it. :bling
