Its really wierd. When im downloadin normally, my downloads suddenly pause, and the program hasn't crashed and neither has windows. Its the download itself has paused itself. Then i have to click resume, and it hs to re-check the hash etc.... This happens to all the BT progs i use!!
Can someone please help me!!

Thanks

I havn't heard of the MPAA or RIAA doing anything as drastic as taking out firewalls or pausing downloads. They usually stick to sending out letters.
It's strange that it happens on all clients. Some have the option of pausing downloads if they don't connect to the tracker for a set time, but even then that is only to get queuing downloads started.

You can't disable a firewall remotely when doing it legally without getting a federal search warrant with proper cause, the last time I checked. Those cost money and take a lot of time. So, by the time theyd get a warrant, youd be done with your movie/music.

But I doubt this happened.

All pissing aside. . . .

If you are HELLA downloading, and no matter what BT client that you use . . then common sense tells you, that it is something in your O/S, or networking thats to blame, it might EVEN be your Broadband modem.

Stop guessing and get some facts.

First off, View, Save, then CLEAR your Event Logs.

Consider whether there are other factors, such as another program that hits 100% CPU usage, maybe when you launch, or your firewall is hosing up. Maybe youre trying to use BT and another P2P client at the same time *snicker*

Run lean and clean, watch what where and when.

What TIME does this occur? Did you know that your broadband can quite temporarily EVERY DAY . . when its time to renew the lease? ipconfig /all

Let these fine diagnosticians assist you further by providing more information for them to work with.

Also, do you have the hard drive room to complete the download?

Ok, my downloads that suddenly pause has nothin to do with the riaa, mpaa, or my hardisk filling up or my firewall. When the downloads pause, the cpu usage is at max 100%. When it is at 100%, nothin crashes, not windows and not the BT prog, just that the download puses. Is there neway of limiting the cpu useage, or i was thinking i could put the download at lowest poirity, and see what happens.

Thanks to all the peeps who relplied!!

Hi, newbie here. I've got a similar problem with BT's run on shareaze. I'm running on 1mb with download set at 512 and upload at around 65 average. The download(s) keeps freezing. Everything uploading is 'choked'. I can't search and my PC states no signal in or out. I can still run K-Lite etc when this happens but when I logout and go back to my BT's same problem. Grateful for advise. Best C

Sorry just embraced more of thread above. No firewall issues that are flagged, no hard disc probs, modem & line fine and as I say still can d/l off other sites. Also little ADSL traffic in my area. Happens on all file sizes. Can see others upload when I can't d/l.

What do you mean by "freeze"? Do your downloads just stop downloading? Do they pause like sebfernandos? If it is a case of you getting snubbed or choked, then check the link in my signature.

Cheers MI. I spotted this link just after posting and will be going home to run it through this weekend. Bit of a tech moron so firewalls are usually beyond me but this seems prittyy idiot proof. I'll feed back over the w/e. Tx for the help. C

I dont thinnk this 'pause downloads' has anything to do with firewalls, choked clients, small hard drive, virueses or nething like that. This isn't downloads slowing down, this is downloads puasing them selves, not crashing nething or freezin nethin. This has somethin 2 do wit the 100% cpu usage

Great, 100% . . . are you talking about the BT client using 100% ? You still havent supported your case, I charged you with providing proper information so that these people can help you.

Supposing that you are watching Task Manager, and have arranged the process by CPU usage AND youve observed this phenomena, is the the client, or Explorer.exe? If your so certan that youre going to rule out everything youve mentioned, than Dr Watson, whatever is left must be the answer.

You have'nt stated that you scrutinzed your Event logs, or told us your system specs, for all I know, your a masochist running a p.o.s. system suffering under your maniacal BT jollies.

Do your homework, and cough up some legit info, and I will help you further.

thanks for that carolinawolf, that was helpful........not.

Newayz Krell, Ok yer your right, i haven't supplied much info on the prob. Here is all the info on the prob .lol.:

PC SPEC:
Fijutsu Siemens
Pentuim 4
1.4GHz
768 PC133 SDRAM
120GIG HD
OS: Windows XP

The Problem:

Open ABC 2.6.1
Open a .torrent that i downloaded of the internet
Turns different colours before turning green, downloads normal.
Download speed increase slowly till max, upload speed increases till max
After 10mins, the download puases, Nothin freezes or crashes, just the download pauses
I have to reume the download, for the download to start transfering again

I have attached some pics when the download pauses:

| screen shot 1 (ABC) | (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/felix.fernando/1.gif)
| Screenshot 2 (task manager) | (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/felix.fernando/2.gif)
| Screenshot 3 (Task manager CPU) | (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/felix.fernando/3.gif)

Emmm thats pretty much alll the info i can give, i looked if abc did a log file, but couldn't find nething.

Thanks

Seb

p.s if anyone has the problem, where they cant use their internet after using any bit torrent program, you can solve this by lowing the upload speed.

Had the same problem too, try what I did, in ABC go to Action> ABC Preference>Advanced setting and at the bottom of that, set the Max peer connections to 60. Been using it for about 3 days and not one lockup.

Same problem here...cpu maxing 100% but also page file also maxing out.

Found a fix on the net (didn't save it) that suggested adjusting the page file settings.

Check your page file usuage: http://www.powerutilities.no/memwatch.html

start up BT and see what happens.

If it starts flashing explanation points, you've got the same problem i have.

>my computer>properties>system properties>performance>settings>advanced>virtual memory>change>custom size.

you'll need to set initial size to 0 MB then type in the max to whatever memorywatcher shows during BT useage plus 10 MB.

you'll have to restart naturally.

Hey, i was desparate and tired of having to restart BT everytime my transfers would freeze (every 15 minutes or so) and gave it a try and it worked for me.....

Perhaps someone here will know of a better setting to tweak it to and hopefully will add his/her thoughts to this post.

Edit: Forgot to add that OS is XP sp1

Did you try doing what I posted? Still haven't had a lockup.
LordLOC posted in the other thread that he thinks it might be Xfire causing the problem, do you have Xfire installed?

I uninstalled Xfire, and magically all my torrent problems disappeared, reinstalled it and yep, the problems came back.

I'm curious if anyone else with this problem has Xfire installed also?"

Do you enjoy looking like an ignorant ass?

For the record the problem is with the BT client. All of them. And yes, one of the symptoms is btdownloadgui.exe using at or near 100% of the CPU. Here's the technical info (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BitTorrent/message/3824) if you're really so interested. CPU hosing "starts when the sum of the number of seeds and peers
aproaches 63" so setting the max peer connections to 60 (like -RaZ- stated) should solve the problem.

Nice googling work! *pats hackiavelli on the head*

Get over yourself, since when do we NOT utilize the basic resources at our disposal to identify the problem, and eliminate the rest?

Same problem for me....freezing after 15mins.All I've done is change the setting from 'automatic' to dsl/cable fast [bittorrent T-0.3.7(Bit Tornado)] and it's been working now for 90 mins.

To fix the problem of freezed/paused downloads or cpu usage going 100% and crashing you comp.

All you have to do is
in ABC or go to Action>
ABC Preference>
Advanced setting and at the bottom of that,
set the Max peer connections to 60.

For any other bt app just set the max peer connections to 60

Thats all you have to do, you need any fancy cpu prog

No offense people but this solution has been submitted quite alot now, and this problem is quite old now, nearly 6 months old.
