BT F***in Up..

Hello everyone.. seems to be a little problem...

I've tried many different BitTorrent flavors, those written in python to those written in Java.

It's just been happening lately, so I've been thinking it might be Windows, since I have never gone this long (nearly 4 months now) without re-formatting.

Whenever I'm in BT, I can connect and start downloading quickly and effectively. The only problem is, that after about 10 minutes, the download cuts off, and BT becomes frozen. The proper ports are forwarded. This happens in: ABC, Azeurus, original BT, TorrentStorm, and Shadow's.

It's not a RAM problem (ive got 1.5 GB) and dont think its too little processor (1.6 P4) Well infact I know its neither of these, because a few weeks ago everything was perfect. The weird thing is, it works fine on small files <5MB. And even on some files such as TV Shows work fine. But I was downloading a TV show about an hour ago, and boom, its dead. I've waiting long enough trying to fix this on my own. CPUGenius tends to always have the answer in his palm... but I'll try for everyones' opinion at once.

I'm wondering if there is a trend going on here. What the hell could effect so many programs on so many machines. There have been many reports like this over the last few weeks or so. What the hell is going on. My torrents were working fine 2 weeks ago without a single problem. Now all of a sudden I cant get any of them to work for shit.

BT is not that good of a program. Imoho. There are better solutions out there, including friendnet.

Any program that multisource downloads files will have problems with speed and corrupt downloads.

i have not had a single problem with BT. I use shad0w's experimental. Do you have protowall or peerguardian? I would suggest using one of them as it is possible for copyright holders or Baytsp/Netforce to corrupt your downloads.

Did you already try the ABC fix that I posted in the other threads?

"Had the same problem too, try what I did, in ABC go to Action> ABC Preference>Advanced setting and at the bottom of that, set the Max peer connections to 60. Been using it for about 3 days and not one lockup."

Now it's been about a week since I did that and not a problem. Also, do you have Xfire installed?

Yea I saw that and I did the same. I also removed X-fire and hopefully between the two of them I can get my BT running right again.

Hey, thanks for the responces, in responce to one question: Windows XP SP1.

Now I can answer my own question. I downloaded the new CVS of Azureus (sp?) and it seems to be working excellent. Haven't had any problems. Corruption wasnt my problem in the first place. BT was simply using more CPU than was there it seemed like. Just stopped.

But now everything is great, thanks for the help.

The problem is CPU hosing (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BitTorrent/message/3824). BitTorrent will work fine for a while then it will lock up. You can tell when it's occured - beyond the obvious - by checking CPU utilization: it's usually well over 80% when it happens (regular usage is 5% on my computer).

I don't know why it's come back with a vengence this last couple weeks. The same is happening to me. Apparently setting your client to accept less than 64 peers is one of the workarounds. For Shad0w's BT client go to Prefs, Advanced, and set Max peer connections to 60.
