anyone know I could play M2V files [dvd rips] with Windows Media Player rather than using PowerDVD or some other DVD software.?

no that is not possible because a m2v file is a video only file that is a mpeg-2 stream, windows media player does not have a mpeg-2 codec to view those types of files, they are reserved for players like windvd powerdvd and such because those pieces of software contain the right codecs to view the video file.

Media Player Classic could probably play those. Try looking for it at Sourceforge.net or googling it.

There are several MPEG2 codecs that you can install that will allow WMP to play back M2V files.
