Yay... I got a check for $13.86 today for being overcharged on approximately 200 CDs... I think that a check for about $100 for both my wife and myself would be more appropriate than this lousy $27.72.

Congratulations wingnut2600 :fire
Not as much as you would have liked, but a small victory all the same. Perhaps you could think up another way to claw back the rest.

it is finally good to see the riaa is forced to shell out at least some money to the consumers that have been ripped off for soooo many years. whats even worse is that all in all it's only $13 bucks it should be more but hey if it was me recieving that money I would'nt care if it was a 1 cent check as long as it came from the organzations pocket. lol wignut you and you're wife can use the money to "buy" more cd's for generations to come ;)

I should have taken advantage of the rebate offer, letting the family dog in on the 13 dolllar settlement check. We would have let Grandpa and Grandma in on the offer, but they are still using 8-track tapes.

Really.

Then again, perhaps I should just frame my check and pass it down as a historical artifact?

Any suggestions?

Heh, good idea! Imagine if everyone who got that check would donate it to the defense of p2p - the RIAA paying for those they sue - priceless!

Funny that y'all talk about donating to RIAA. Check out http://www.DonateMyMusicCheck.com/ !!!

Yeah, since they use the money they get through the settlement to sue more of us instead of going to artist. It makes since to donate the money.. Unless you absolutely need it.. but i prefer someone who needs it more to get it.

This site seems a little questionable to myself. I think if I were going to donate I would use the official eff site at: https://secure.eff.org/

Then, at least, you would know that all of your money is going to them.

I'm the developer of DonateMyMusicCheck.com. Wingnut, your point is well taken. In fact, I'm working closely with the EFF. 100% of all money received will be sent to the EFF. I have their full support and they already link to me at http://www.eff.org/support/helpout.php. I am a legitimate business person and currently publish DiaRIAA among other properties.

You certainly can donate directly to EFF but then your tiny donation of $13.86 is just one of many and gets lost. But if we get 100 or 1000 people donating their checks to DonateMyMusicCheck.com and can present thousands of dolllars to the EFF in one lump sum, then that's newsworthy. We can do a press release that makes a strong statement to the music establishment that we're standing up for our rights and that WE are watching THEM.

Best Regards,
Marc Freedman

Yes, I know. The site is a good idea, I prefer to just send at 13.86 dollar donation directly to the EFF. That way I will know where the money is going.

Heh, this is a tough crowd. Donate My Music Check has already been featured in EFF (Effector newsletter and on their site), TechTV, and SiliconValley.com (GMSV daily newsletter).

If you do send your money direct to EFF and not through the Donate My Music Check web site, please let us know how much you donated. That way we can count it as a referral. Thank you!

I know where the people who don't want to take the risk of trusting RazorPop are coming from, but if you go to EFF and use the link from there I can't see the problem. It sounds like a clever publicity stunt.

Music sharers are a paranoid group :)

After reading your post I realized that your site was legit, I was just a little spurious of the link previous to that. The internet has a large amount of people that try to make money by deceiving others, so I was initially suspicious. After clicking you link I saw that the EFF site linked you, so you are cool with me. In fact, I might even donate my two checks on it. I like the idea of people donating their checks there and the following press release... that is good PR. Freedom in the digital age is something in which I believe, and the EFF seems to be the best bet for supporting those rights.
