hey guys thanx for the help on mirc. I just got another question. I knowticed when I went in there that my IP address along with my ISP was visible to anyone who was talking to me. Is there a way to hide it

you can hide it or use proxy, but if you hide your ip, alot of your dcc sends will fail or fail to get files.. When you send it, its sending it to the ip you have.

You can't hide your IP shawners.

A quick /WHOIS and you're IP is theirs for the taking.

A proxy, well, not much I can tell you on that.

well if you go to irc.p2pchat.net your ip address is protected from others.

your host name will show up simply like this.
well mines show up as the internet provider your using
for example say my internet provider is bozotheclown.net

my ip address will show up as maybe stupidclown.bozotheclown.net

it will not show the numerical ip address.
such as it wont show the numerical value

like say if its 122.22.333.14
it will just show your internet providers name
so there is nothing to worry about
or get paranoid about.

only if you dcc with someone they can get your ip address, and that doesnt mean that if you message someone either they will not be able to get your ip address.

only when you have a direct connection with someone directly is when the other person can get your ip address.
hmm not much to worry about like i said before.
peace

and even if they do get your ip address not much you can do, just dont auto accept dcc or files from anyone.

ip addresses can be changed and flush out if your on dial up just dial in again u can new ip address.
same thing works for dsl, just shut off your dsl modem and u obtain a new one within 2minutes.

but dont get all paranoid or in a fret about this.
being on irc is harmless unless u accept files from people u dont know.
hmm

thats why you dont set it to download everything that is sent to you. also, im pretty sure that there are some vulnerabilities with Mirc (atleast non current versions) that allow a remote user to execute code. given those two things, and somone can virtually control your entire machine.

like within anything it is wise to make sure that you only accept files from people you know on irc.
and if you happen to download off of irc then make sure you have a antivirus program too.

leave the antivirus program running in the back ground as well so it can catch the virus before its send to you, that way you can be assured your not downloading a virus in the first place.

and get a firewall again, hmm there are free programs to use, and its better to be safe then sorry.

get avg free antivirus program at grifsoft.com
and sygate personal firewall free version at sygate.com
