OK, here's the deal. I have an AMD Athlon XP3200. In the specs its listed as a 2.2Ghz. I recently built my own computer but came across problems with the bios not detecting the settings for my memory and CPU. Anyway the screen that shows the cpu type displayed it as the Athlon XP3200. But after I got it back from CompUSA..(turned out it was a problem with the jumpers not being configured, which I totally forgot about)Anyway the cpu is now listed as an Athlon XP 2500+ 1.83GHz
WTF? it's NOT a 2500..its suppose to be a 3200! I'm still not getting the power I am suppose to be getting from it, I know the GHz is not always the same as listed, but the 2500 part is totally wrong..did they put in a different cpu without my knowledge? or did they fuck it up beyond the problem I once had before? My motherboard DOES support the 3200 @ 400 MHZ FSB so why is it being listed as a different model? Or am I just too paranoid and this was all suppose to happen? :error

I used CPUID and it also lists the processor as the 2500 w/ the Thorton Core ..WRONG it's suppose to be Barton Core!

I also used Central Brain Identifier and I'm getting the same results. I'm terribly confused now.

Or maybe I should just buy another Athlon XP 3200? the price has dropped drastically since I purchased it so that wouldn't be a problem.

the old bait and switch maybe... try going to the motherboard makers website and see if you kant get a bios update. i would start there and see what happens

I would look at the CPu to see if in fact it was switched.

yea, check ur jumper settings and see if ur board actually supports that.. and then look at the actual cpu for damage and the correct model number

I assume that the FSB and multiplier (CPU ratio) are set correctly in the BIOS?

Could it actually show a different model if it were damaged?

Where is your receipt showing that you bought the other processor? Get it.

use . . drumroll .. . Aida32 and examine your processor build, and print it out. "REPORT"

Now, if the two are completely different, then go back to CompUSA, after having talked to the General Manager.

Have the General Manager, and the Service Dept Manager, personally examine your information, and show them the receipt where you took the system in to the store.

Here are the results I got from Aida32:

Under motherboard, then CPU:

CPU Type: Unknown
CPU Alias: Unknown
L1 Code Cache: 64 KB
L1 Data Cache: 64 KB
L2 Cache: 512 KB (On-Die,Full-Speed)

Under the CPUID properties:

CPUID Manufacturer: AuthenticAMD
CPUID CPU Name: AMD Athlon XP 2500+

And that's all I needed to see. I just don't get it..everything I have supports the 3200. I'm not really sure about it, but they must've put in a different cpu..hell the bios even lists it as the 2500(before I even took it in to be repaired it WAS listed as the 3200) . Do they think I'm dumb and not realized what they did? They were suppose to repair this, but I guess they didn't. But my computer is running fine, I just don't know if it's worth the trouble taking it back, plus I don't know if I can trust them anymore. Which sucks because compared to the billy bob pc repair places, compusa always charges me the cheapest, and they never seem to go by that 99$ flat rate labor charge.

Now print out this thread, get your receipts, and give the WHOLE thing to the store manager to read,

cheers.

Listen to Krell.

He knows how to strike fear into the hearts of retail managers.
