The Man Who

Hi, I was wondering if I could get a little help explaining something that has been puzzling me for some time.
I am at University in St Andrews (Scotland) in uni halls, thus I am on the LAN. I have been using KLR with no problems, I set my incoming port as 3801 in the "Firewall" tab on the settings and that works great.
However, using 3801 as incoming port on other programs, like WinMX which I was sure could be used on LAN does not seem to work.
Am I doing something wrong or is there some sort of fundamental difference between KLR and other p2p programs?
