I just bought my 2nd computer..major upgrade. I am now able to burn cd's!! I'm not a newbie to computers but I am a newbie to d/l music. I used Mirc couple yrs ago to get mp3's. I now have cable access so I want to d/l the SH*t outta everything. I have been reading everyone's posts and they are really great and informative! I would like to know what are the top 5 programs that are user friendly ..and no ad/spy ware..

Thanks for your help! Sorry if I sound like a freaking dork...I'm just soooo excited that I have a fast connection and a computer that doesn't take 5 minutes to load a page!

A personal favorite of mine is Ares. It's also good for a beginner. You can find it at

I just read this though..
Third-party applications bundled with this download may record your surfing habits, deliver advertising, collect private information, or modify your system settings.

Do I want that? My first guess would be no. If I do install this program can I get another program to get rid of ad/spyware?

What program is that for lildeb68? All programs listed here should be free from that stuff. Make sure that you arn't on a con site.
Use the programs section of this site so that you know that you are using official sources.

yeah man i use Ares to..it's by far the closest you can get to Kazaa FastTrack network, plus it has no fake files like Kazaa does.

Enjoy Ares...and i suggest "Overnet" the Lite version of it. It has many more files that you cant get on other Networks :gj

...Shareaza - www.shareaza.com...

Are you mad?
This is a total beginner who asked for an easy to use program.

Shareaza doesn't even have a stable release available at the moment and unless you know what you are doing it should be avoided.

yea ares is good for downloading

But you get also spyware thats impossible to get rid off. Not to mention that ares puts your entire computer on the network so people can have access to other files that are not in your sharefolder

I have not heard of any problems with ares as long as you are carefull with the install, and opt out of any extras.

When you first installed Ares you had the option of a "NAV HELPER" it is optional and you should have said NO (spyware). As for sharing everything on your entire computer, you should have manually configured your file share. You can still do that in your preferences.

ARES BLOSE (yes, BLOSE; not Blows)...I wish I could use Piolet on my comp....OOH ! Moving on... HEY YOU--NooB guy that started this thread! use Piolet....omfg AWESOME transfer rates over cable.
