I have an old PC with an old CPU (intel Pentium 200 MHz MMX). Unfortunately, I can't remember the bios password which i have setup a long time ago. Is there any way to log on to the system without the need to open the Metal Case, locating the specific jumper responsible 4 holding the bios info and then waitng 4 some hours till discharging take place ???

P.S. I have heard that there are certain codes (key combinations) which were available to the old family of pentium CPUs by which i can bypass my password - right ?

you can look up default reset passwords for the BIOS manufactor. and try those. Also i heard of quickly tapping esc 100 times could set it to switch back to default...but i'd look up the manufactor's reset passwords first.

http://labmice.techtarget.com/articles/BIOS_hack.htm might help.

Turn off pc.

Take out the battery for about 5 seconds.

Turn on pc.

I agree with Omyn. Probably the easiest way remove the cmos battery or reset jumper to clear.

One of my close friends a long time ago forgot his bios password. He opened up his system and flipped a switch hidden on the motherboard to bypass it. He told me that a variety of older computers used to have physical password switches. I never looked into it myself, but perhaps its a possibility.

it should not take 4 hours to clear the cmos.

Open the case. Look at the motherboard. Very close to the battery is a jumper. It will be labeled something like CLR_RTC or CLR_CMOS. It's usually 3 jumper pins and one jumper cap. Move the jumper cap from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3 or vice versa. Move it back when you are done.

just flash the bios by taking out the system battery, leave it out for a little while then re-insert it once you reboot after putting the battery back the cmos ship should be flushed out and all of the setting(including the system password) will be reset :)

Sometimes taking out the battery doesn't make it forget the password. If it does work it can sometimes take days for everything to discharge enough to forget the password.
