I downloaded the codec pack from http://www.kdp.2ya.com/

Downloaded video clips work very well, but I have a problem with streaming. For example, if I try to watch trailers for the movie Passion (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0335345/trailers), the audio is ok but there's no picture, just a gray surface. Later I uninstalled the codec pack and booted my machine but the problem remains. Any ideas how to fix this?

Found another glitch.. AVIPreview won't show video anymore.. it says "Rendering failed". Audio works but no picture.

most likely you didn't follow the instructions for the package. It says explicitly to not install certain codecs or proggies together. First thing you should do is follow this link and download the most recent codec pack and install but read about the options in the checklist b4 you click on them if you have any other trouble i'd advise checking out the newbie guides at http://www.doom9.org

edit:try not installing the ffdshow filter and never install everything... it may seem like the right thing to do but it definately isn't
