CD filename length limit, backup software

Is there a way to burn files to CD with filenames longer than 31 characters?
Nero truncates the filesnames with joilet turned on.

I'm backing up files onto CDR's by creating 650MB rar archives.

What backup software works well?

burnatonce can do it as well as sony cd extreme, which by the way is hard to find on the net.

Both are freeware.

Starting in version 6, Nero will let you relax the ISO restrictions and have up to 255 characters in a filename.

actually I did notice that recently. lol The same settings before did not really work. I accidently burned a few long file names and thought hmm cool. It worked.

That is so nice too. Back before version 6 came out, I kept burning CDs full of mp3s with truncated filenames (since I would put the artist - cd title - track number then the - track name).

I finally got around that in Nero 5 by using Winrar and compressing the mp3 albums into 1 big file. Then I would just burn the archive onto the CD.

It had its drawbacks. I couldn't listen to one song without copying the entire album file to the hard disk and extracting it. Thank god those days are over.

foobar2000 will allow you to drag and drop a rar or zip file on it and play the music inside it without extracting it. Also there is a plugin that does that for winamp I believe. I use it with another media player (xmplay) and never installed it in winamp though, at least yet.

xmplay has a webpage with the plugins, so you could google and take a look.

when you first open foobar it's a ugly thing to behold. Just start configuring it with the colors you want, and it's actually way cool once you see all the things it can do.

I'm still interested in opinions on backup software. I'v tried veritas backup executive and other in the past and not been impressed
