Got a new Pinoeer DVD-A06U for christmas to replace the HP DVD 100i i had and just today tried to burn a DVD on it, and guess what, computer froze soild in the middle of the record, cant even move the mouse, and the drive wont eject.

Tried a +RW and -RW disc and 2 different sets of files, and the same exact thing happened. Upgraded the firmware, still freezes solid.

Is this a defective drive or does Nero have some problem with this drive. The fact that it locks solid makes me think is some hardware problem instead of software.

i have a sony dru 510a, and many people say that a dvd+r uses more resources while writing, try a -r and not -rw...

plus ensure that ur dma is enabed for both hdd and rom, its default in xp pro, but check to make sure,

also i have used nero6, and its a resource hog, i suggest u should give veritas recordnow max a shot, popular torrent site has it, make sure its a veritas and not sonic

For DMA

open device manager and right click on the 3 options , in property chose "use dma if availble" whereever option exists,,,primary, secondary (refer to pic attachment)

Yup DMA is enabled for both HD and DVD drive, the thing is the old dvd drive worked fine with the same disc for that matter, so why would Nero have some issue with it.

I guess i can try out veritas and see what happens, think i still have the CD from my old drive which has veritas on it.
