so.. I had a problem with the files I got from KaZaa and decided to start using eMule as suggested by more than 1 person who replied to my earlier problem. I'm kinda new to all of this since I went braodband but the downloads I'm now getting are slower than Dialup ever was. What am I missing here or doing wrong?

that's a good link posted above by cpugenius...i had the same experience you had when i first tried emule.

here is the general answer that 'techy's and geeks give/gave to me for 'helping' with this problem.

I was told that you earn 'credits' which are like 'rewards' or 'reward points' for the files that you upload to others.

so the more that you upload..the more 'credits' or 'reward points' you earn...after you upload enough..you should start getting better downloads.

I uploaded over 3 gigabytes without downloading a single thing while on emule with a cablemodem...sometime later.

I used overnet..and got speeds as high as 192kbps or 192Kb

your download speeds will vary based upon the upload capability [how fast the user you are downloading from can send you the file(s) ] and..the amount of sources available for the file.

My best advice for you is to once again try another program..this time if you would..overnet..keep trying them until you find one you like..if overnet isn't for you then you have my apology for wasting your time..but somehow i think you'll be glad you did try it if you do.

Slow is pretty much the way it goes with eMule. I don't think you'll ever convince me that this credit system is any good. With thousands of users and millions of files, what are the chances that someone you uploaded to will be sharing a file that you want to download? Not very good. eMule actually seems to be getting slower as time goes on. I used to use it a year ago and it was halfway decent. These days I'm using it less and less. My upload/download ratio is around 100:1.... still waiting for these credits that everyone raves about to kick in....

Maybe eMule doesn't work in eDonkey network anymore like Shareaza. I used eDonkey2000 before... speed is not bad but I moved to Overnet (fully decentralized network) for my Dial-up modem coz I think I got more sources and search result.

The credit system has most effect on large files.
You get a few chunks of a large file and upload those chunks to other people who are downloading the same file.
The other clients give you credit for your upload so you get some other chunks in return.

-_- User A has dial up and user b has broadband, user B wants something of user A's but user A's bandwidth won't allow it to go that high because of physical limitations, as stated above, welcome to ED2k.

i used to have a lot of transfers on emule back in the day like 6 months ago, i would ulpoad about 20 gigs a month and get the same if not more in return but then i upgraded to the ne emule and my schools firewallls started to recognize emule and it went downhill for me... now the only program that works is DirectConnect. here you HAVE to share or you wont be allowed to join the networks. with this program you are able to d/l much faster but you must also share alot, right now i share 29gigs but its not nearly as much as other share (some share upwards of 200gigs)... i recommend this program if you have a large hd with stuff to share and a fastass connection.
