I had this very same problem. I would like to know how to fix it also. It wasn't an HP though.

is it integrated sound? or a pci sound card?

if it's integrated sound, which motherboard/chipset is it?

(all this can be found using aida32 (http://www.aida32.hu))

okay...

on the back of your computer, is the place where you plug in your speakers (and similar ports where you would plug in a microphone) towards the top...or bottom?

and are they going vertically, or horizontally?

Just a hint. I've ran into problems with my Boston Acoustics speakers and the drivers Windows XP installs. My speakers need a digital output signal, and a special driver.

Good work guys!

Its time to stop pissing around tho, YOU, take the cover off, and look on the motherboard, for THIS chip or the equivalent : Stereo AC'97 codec Analog Devices AD1885 chip.

Its a small chip, maybe 3\4 " square, and usually on the MB near to where you plug in sound etc.

Whatever that # is . . . then you report back here. You will end up getting the driver off of driver.com etc, or right from the manufacturer of the chipset.

Now I want you to look at this page, at the top, where it says TOP Companies.

http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/

Analog Devices
• Avance Logic
• Aztech Labs
• CMedia
• Creative Labs • Crystal
• Diamond Multimedia
• Ensoniq
• ESS Technology
• OPTi • Packard Bell
• Roland
• SoundPro
• Yamaha
• Zoltrix

I beleive that kbd.exe is a multimedia keyboard manager for Logitech keyboards and possibly others, and it is required if you use the multimedia keys. You cannot stop it as it controls the keyboard. This is why I try to stay from multimedia keyboards. They have a mind of their own.
Do you have another keyboard to try?
Also, I dont understand the 100% cpu usage either. Can you post a snapshot?

I did some research and found this link to a driver. Apparently the HP drivers do not work well. peace

If all else fails...try poping your XP disc in and scanning for changes in device manager. If that fails...format and start over? lmfao

Edit: Don't forget to cancel xp's auto run bullshit...

And I just noticed...someone has an Asian fetish....and it just so happens - I'm burning a fresh DVD-R copy of a Morning ........... concert. Hmmm I wonder what those .'s could mean...?

This entire thread should never have happened. This is like what you see advertised really late at night with the infomercials "When good threads go bad".

Listen, I dont post here to jack up my post count. FIRST THINGS FIRST.

Install XP, then, the CHIPSET UPDATES . . . for Intell or AMD. Then use AIDA32 to scan your hardare, and get the drivers form the Manufacturer, or the Chip company for the devices, as I posted earlier.

If you have an older, marginal system, this is the kind of headaches you go thru, own it.

Or, throw the POS in the garbage, and build a new one, bring it.
