I have spent the last month trying to get my bittorrent client to work again. I have used numerous clients and opened all the right ports on my router adn for some reason the download speed never went above 20kb/s. This wasn't right because i used to get speeds exceeding 200kb/s. So finally i did something that most people never would have thought of. All along people were telling me that i needed to open ports 6888-6991 and i checked and these ports were opened. So i disabled them and my download immediately shot up to 150kb/s. Anyone know why this worked?

ok basically i dont think this is an internet connection problem. First of all if I'm correct it sounds like your computer only has 120mb of ram. What version of windows are you using? If its XP then I would definitely say get more ram. I have 640mb of Ram and I often find that that is not enough to run some programs. If when you start bittorrent you only have 20mb of ram free that is probably not enough. Go out and buy some more ram because its very inexpensive. Also, what bittorrent client are you using? I would try using another client. Right now I use ABC, which allows you to throttle the upload speed. It also has a neat feature to check if your router is set up proparly. When you begin downloading a torrent file the file name should change from yellow to green and if it doesnt then your router is not set up proparly. Well thats a start. I'll wait for you to reply and then tell you a few other things that might work.
