Help..jpeg viewing problem

Today I went to view some pictures on my PentIII 98SE system...and it said... no program was associated with being able to view jpeg files.
Since I haven't changed added or deleted anything ...what happened ???...probably a corrupted file or??
I still show having Kodak Image View (the default windows viewer) installed..but I am unable to re-associate it..
No, I dont have a backup disk.
Can anyone enlighten me as to remedying the situation or suggest another FREE viewer that I could install...

have you tried going into properties and reassociateing the file to open up with kodak image viewer?? You can pick the file to open it with if its not associated wiith anything.. usually windows explorer opens it as well.

oh boy...

i can't remember if it's in folder options in 98, but there is a section called "File types" where you can select your file associations...

check it out. if it's not there, i'll see if i can find an installation of 98 to look at.

thanks cpugenius...went to view/folders options/filetypes...but when I try to edit jpeg ...I am unable to find the Kodak Imageview folder to re-associate when I browse.
It just says 'open' in the dialog box. ???

select "open" then below that there should be an edit button. hit that then browse to the location of the program you want for that filetype.

no, it says 'open in the dialog box.
When I browse I am unable to find the folder to reassociate that contains Kodak Image View..cant find it when searching either...but it still shows in my registry entries. ???hmmm

Sometimes just re-installing the program you want to associate with a file works. It should reset itself in the windows registry as being the default.

use irfan view and associate the files for jpeg and many other formats.
google irfanview, it will take u to the direct site to download it.

its freeware ;)

You could always delete the file type, then create a new file type of your own, and input the extension (in your case, .jpeg). Then you can associate this file type with whatever program you want.

Just make sure that you know exactly what you are deleting, so you can manually create what you need.

I don't know abou any of you, but I usually just let my browser (in this case, IE), open these types of image files (JPEG, GIF, etc..)

If I ever feel the need to edit or tweak, I use Photoshop or PSP.
