If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it,

does it make a sound?

yes, rather you heard it or not is irrelevant.. The fact its still energy in motion that produces the sound.

But is energy in motion sound if it isn't heard?

Better yet, if several high ranking RIAA employees are assassinated, would anyone care?

But that answer is a given. ;)

Yeah, that's like asking if Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera dissappeared from the face of the earth, would anyone care?

lol.

RJ5500, A LOT! Britney has legions of fans and men who want to see her undress every chance she gets who would be very upset, and Christina has many haters (shes the most hated woman in entertainement according to People Mag) who would be happy. So in short. Yes, lots of people would care.

Well, you've got a point there. I'm sure these legions of male fans aren't that concerned with her singing ability.

and Christina has many haters (shes the most hated woman in entertainement according to People Mag) who would be happy.

It must suck to be the most hated woman in entertainment. Sure every celebrity is hated by someone, but to hold the top spot must be quite an honor. Well, at least she gets the vote for one of the worst dressed celebrities in entertainment.

Maybe the question should be if the tree is not falling on me, should I care? :upside

What's worse - being the most hated person, or the runner up?

& ...

If a tree falls in a forest and there is no one there to see it is it really there?
If a tree falls in a forest and there was nobody there to see it, does it really fall?
If a tree falls in a forest and it hits a mime, would he make a noise?
If a tree falls in a forest on a mime clapping with one hand, could Marlee Matlin hear it?
If a tree falls in a forest and no one is there to hear it, do the other trees make fun of it?
If a tree falls in a forest and no one's there to hear it, do the other trees laugh?
If a tree falls in a forest and nobody hears it, is information transmitted?
If a tree falls in a forest and no one's around, do the rest of the trees dance around naked in Satanic rituals?
If a tree falls in a forest and no one sees it, does its wave function become non-localised?
If a tree falls in a forest and no one calls the media, as the environmental activist saying goes, nothing happened.
If a tree falls in a forest, will your investors hear it?
If a tree falls in a forest, it may or may not make a sound. But this much is certain: If it falls in a forest managed by the federal government, it will generate significantly less revenue than if it falls in one managed by a state government.
If a tree falls in a forest, and there is no one there to hear it, will it still land on my head?
If a tree falls in a forest, and it hits a census taker, does that count?
If a tree falls in a forest and hits an Italian, does anyone really care?
If a tree falls in a forest and lands on a politician, even if you can't hear the tree or the screams, I'll bet you'd at least hear the applause.
If a tree falls in a forest, and a TV camera doesn't see it, has the tree really fallen?
If a tree falls in a forest, and it falls on a druid, he shouldn't have taken so much acid in the sixties.
And UPN canceled Head Over Heels -- proof positive that if a tree falls in a forest, and nobody's there to hear it, it would still get better ratings than anything UPN could ever broadcast.
If a tree falls in a forest will Greenpeace hold a press conference?
If a tree falls in a forest that's full of deaf dwarves, will some of the dwarves be squashed?
If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does the coffee still taste bitter?

I've always like the one that goes

If a man speaks in the middle of a forest and there is no woman around to hear him, Is he still wrong?

Good list reg,

here is one I've heard for years

Does a bear sh*t in the woods or do they stand back and throw it in?

or

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck chucked wood?

sorry my mind wondered out there must be the Vicodin(I just through out my back)lol

It is heard, only it's just not loud enough for anyone to recognize it. If an object falls to earth, the earth must also move slightly, therefore causing a small vibration all around the planet, only that vibration is too small for anyone to recognize it, so in fact, if a tree falls in the woods, everyone hears it ;)

Even he does make sound you won't be able to hear it over everyone else's cheering. ;)

It's too late for me to think of something humorous, infact I'm totally knackered at the moment, but the 'serious' answer seems obvious.

NO - the tree wouldn't make a sound, as sounds are 'heard' by humans/animals, which take the disturbance of air molecules (pressure waves) and convert them into sound.

There will be air disturbance but NO sound.

Right, I'm off to make some snoring sounds right now, and couldn't give a shit who hears !

Only as much wood as woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

Huh, huh huh...you said "wood."

Good point. Maybe whatever force intended for the tree to fall made a mistake and didn't knock down the tree.

Its just crazy to think sounds(vibrations) could occure with no humans around to mark the occasion. It really boggles

If a deaf man claps, will clapper still turn the lights on?

Wrap that around your noodle toy poodle

"clap on, clap off, the clapper!"

it would be interesting to know what happened to whatever the force that was intended to make the tree fall and whether it (the force)truly did make a mistake...
