hi
I'm new to Shareaza, and bit torrents, so it's all still v confusing. I was using just the basic bit torrent prog b4, but since realising it was doing more bad than good (since my uoloads were up to 5 times faster than my dls) i've decided to give Shareaza a go. But I wanna make sure i set it up properly... so what adjustments should i make? Like limiting upload bandwith so i'm not actually hindered... also, what about those BT files i did dl with my the other prog? can i transfer them to here somehow? Is there a reasonable limit of BT dl i should stick to, so i dnt make my comp (and this SHITTY AOL8) crash?
ALso, does Shareaza reconnect the BT dls when u've disconnected? or do u have to go back to the site and re-dl the BT file?
And regarding the other Shareaza feature of searching, why isn't there a size option?
Please just help me get started cos i feel like taring my hair out, between AOL and BT i'm literally wasting my time trying to make sure it's all sorted... so if there's any tips u can gimme regarding bt downloads or p2p, lemme know!
thnx 2 all
k.

Very few people would recommend shareaza purely as a BT client, but that is your choice. You can see www.zeropaid.com/torrents/ for a list of dedicated BT clients.
As for poor download speeds it is more likely to be because you are behind a router or don't have your firewall (including XP firewall) set up properly. We can point you in the right direction if any of these apply to you.

One suggestion: If you use Shareaza, only use G2 and BitTorrent, don't use ED2K - it ruins your speeds.
With the search thing, do the search then right-click in the results and hit Filter Results.
The default BT settings are OK, I think.

You can go to the forums (forums.shareaza.com) at shareaza and probably get more detailed info.

don't use ED2K - it ruins your speeds.
many people who say that don't share enough, or don't share at all.
the more you share, the faster you get through ed2k queues, and the faster your downloads.
ed2k will help you out with mostly everything...
g1 is good too for sources.
between these 2 networks, they will comprise probably 95% of your download sources.

Trust me, I share a ton. I ain't no leech :p
But seriously, ED2K in Shareaza really isn't good. Sure, you get a million sources, but it takes seventeen days of constant uploading before you hit anything above 1KBps. It also seems to fuck up your connection to G2 sources.

Configure Your XP Firewall (from my BT Speeds thread (http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/showthread.php?p=208105#post208105))
Open up your “Network Connections”. Right click on your internet connection or LAN connection and select “Properties”.
->Select the “Advance” tab
->If the “Internet Connection Firewall” is not ticked, then this is not your problem. Research into whether you need the XP firewall or not and jump to "Configure Your Router" below. If it is ticked, please continue:
->Click “Settings…”
->On the “Services” tab press “Add…”
->Description of service = BitTorrent
Name or IP address of the computer hosting this service on your network = Your local IP (From network settings) or your computer name (From My Computer -> Properties ->Computer Name tab)
External Port number for this service = 6881
Internal Port number for this service = 6881
TCP/UDP= TCP
->Press OK.
->Repeat as many times as you want simultaneous downloads, increasing the port number by 1 each time. Realistically you don’t need more than three ports.
If you are using Azureus you in fact only have to do this once. Go to View -> Configuration -> Server tab -> Tick “Use a single shared incoming port for all torrents”
