I know that someone has already thought of this and I have started to do it myself. What I am doing is taking whole albums like box sets and placing them into a zip file. I put on the label Chicago box set, and I was thinking that if I start doing this then others would catch on and do the same thing. I know for dial uppers it wouldn’t be such a great idea, but for the rest of us that has a little better, don’t you think it would be a great Idea?

Let me know what you think, and if you think it is a good idea, spread the word. Let’s keep it simple though so we can find the files. Everything has to say box set after the performer.

that's dandy in the p2ps like winmx or kazaa, that don't allow directory downloading, but why do it?

it only encourages people to use these lousy apps

if you want music albums or sets, use dc or soulseek that have directory downloads

nothing sucks worse than getting some zip file that isn't what it says it is

Dandy? Try painful...and yes Kazaa is crap...which goes hand in hand with 'zip' files.

Yup...DC/Soulseek or Bit Torrent are the shit for full discs...right down to full bonus DVD's.

Nothing sucks worse then downloading a zip (self extracting or not) file from Kazaa only to find the shitty md5 hashing just served up a fucked up file...which can't be saved by any means.

The best way to get full CDs in zip/rar format is to use edonkey or Overnet and use dedicated link sites, such as www.musicdonkey.net or www.mpc-donkey.de

Ok, now we have one person that is against sharing whole albums in a zip file and he had some good points to. How do we know what we are really getting? Isn’t that about the same question right now with single downloads? You never really know what you get until it is downloaded.
My answer to that is simple, if it doesn’t matter about singles why should it matter about zip file; it is the same thing no matter how you might look at it. But right now as we speak someone is downloading Gordon Lightfoot’s box set. (Shivers) this is kind of creepy. Here I am talking about it and all of a sudden someone is downloading the darn thing. Anyway as I was saying if a bunch of us could get together and do this kind of thing it would be great! Look up an album and download the file. Un-zip it, make sure everything is there and there you go 10 to 20 songs to add to your library.

But let’s really take a long hard look at an idea of this kind. Like the guy said, people using crappy software to zip the files, yeah that would be a drag, but I have had some pretty good downloads that were ripped by a dummy. Well I guess time will tell the tale, and I am looking for some people who are with me in this venture.

CORRUPTER, with dedicated link sites you don't have to worry about "what we are really getting". The whole point is that the link is verified so you don't have to worry about it.

I get pretty fast downloads... I cannot count the times that I have received bad files, but I still download. I use about ten different file sharing apps, because I think they all suck in their own way, and some are better for some things than others.

Doesn't matter to me which app you release those box sets on, I think it is a good idea. I use the link sites, and although it is a great way to look for content, often there aren't many sources for the hash. In case some of ya haven't noticed... there are already box sets on many of the networks. Have been for a long time. This dude is doing his part. Cudos.

I really like this Idea but it doesn't seem to have cought on all that well. About a year ago I wrapped many of my albums but no one ever DLed them, so I just went back to sharing singles. Even today, I don't see that many ALBW being shared. I just use soulseek now, but I'm not into collecting that much of the popular music, execpt what my 10yr old likes (which is crap) . I rarely ever use fasttrack for music anymore.

Okay, you try downloading a large zip file on a dial-up connection, only to find out it's fake, and tell me it doesn't matter how you look at it.

I've tried winmx but it would locked up a lot and the queues are too long for my taste (and I thought it was ugly, lol). So that may be why I don't see them. :)
I was always sharing them on the Fasttrack network.

If you're looking to download .rar's of complete cds, how come no one on here uses mIRC? I use efnet all the time to preview cd's before they come out, and it's awsome for getting .rar's of full cd's..often time at 100+ kbps

Unless music players like Winamp would play songs right out of zip-files the whole thing doesn't make much sense. My hard-disk space is too valuable to create an extra zip-file for all the albums I own.

Winamp has plugins for zip/rar/ace/lzw/ect compressed files and Foobar standard comes with it. I've been raring complete audiobooks and other such stuff to keep the folder messes down.

Oh...I do, I was merely making a point and that point is, the fake files are there on fasttrack, and if you waited 2 hours to d/l that fake, you'd be pissed. Most experienced d/l er's can recognize them though. I myself, rarely use fasttrack nowadays.

its good to share album wraps, zips.. .rar. Since the riaa are busting you for really sharing 800 songs, you can share a 100 folders or something, and rotate them in and out.. share letter A for a week, then B for the next week.
