Heres the story, my Dad has been dl from kaaza and recently he has had this problem.
After a dl, he can listen to the song but if he tries to save it to a different location he gets a message sying somthing like, you are attempting to save a file that is protected, this is an illegal action.
he dl several versions until he got one to save, ive never seen this befor, i use kazza on comcast and he's on rcn. any ideas what this about

I'm sure I'm wrong, but that sounds like a win98 error.

Probably the files he is downloading are copyrighted with DRM..
I personally dont use Kazaa for MP3's it's plain awful, I use streamripper for winamp, find a "radio" broadcast you want and it seperates the mp3 files for you and names them also makes individual directories for each radio station.
As for that file, most likely someone trying to share protected content to piss off filesharers, just keep downloading one untill you find one that works.
Oh I know, he forgot to close out the music player he was listening to the music on before he tried to move it to another location, so close out the media player after your listening to that one song before you try to move the file, or listen to a different song on the mp3 player and then try to move the file you were just listening to before.
Also if your listening to it through kazaa, you might have to close out kazaa before you can move the file, its picky like that sometimes.

either it is DRM or Kazaa was still holding on to the file from the download (sometimes it seems to hold a file even after it is done for quite a while) not illegal as in against the law, illegal as in the file was open and locked by kazaa, if it happens again shut down kazaa completely then try moving it

I'd suspect that Altnet had something to do with the DRM on Kazaa. Avoid it like the plague.

I like Ares, but the best way is to try out a few and decide for yourself. I am still waiting for the new WinMX to come out, if it ever does.
