everytime i start BT, and it gets going (after 30-40 minutes)....my computer freezes, therefore i am led to believe that the two are connected...so is there something i should do, or just keep trying? i do a scan disk every time my computer restarts, so it cant be a problem with that..and it has taken me this long (3 days) to get to 7% done, because as soon as i get a good connection (20 kb/s+), my computer freezes..... it also freezes when i am on the computer, just more often (every time so far) when nobody is on the computer...i finished the virus scan and there weren't any problems (4 potentially unwanted programs, but no worries)......so that isnt it, the scandisk isnt it....anybody got any ideas? .....well i set the minimum number of peers to 60 (it was at 20), and ill do as you said, and change to 40 if the problem persists...as i said i had the default at 20, then moved it to 60, and that produced the same results, so i tried 40, which also made my computer freeze after a max of like 40 minutes...the setting at 40 seemed to give me a bit higher speeds (i think i reached about 30 kB/s up and down), but who knows........so now what should i do?...i went to the shadows BT client site, and they only have 5.8.7, which is the original one i used, that gave me the same problems.........also the past few times it has froze by computer, my mouse (on the screen) seems sticky soon before it freezes (i.e. i try to move it from one side of the screen to the other, and it will stop and go, stop and go).......maybe this will help to solve the problem
sry if it sound a little wierd, b/c i have been posting at another site as well, and copy and pasted here to see if the ZP geniouses knew more.....

BitTorrent uses alot of resources; processor and memory. It can go through 100's of MB's of memory in a few hours. If 30k is your top upload speed lower it a bit and try something like FreeRam XP to address the memory problem. Don't run alot of things in the background when BT is on- it sounds like you have 100% CPU usage when it freezes.

How about trying a different client? Not ABC as it is based on experimental. How about Azureus? Actually try Burst as I find Azureus abit of a resource hog after a while. I'm not spamming it, I'm just suggesting to try a different client to see if it is that.
BT Clients don't take a second to install/uninstall.

i ran free RAM, and it says i have 17% of my 120 MB of RAM free, or 20 MB free.....is this too little to run BT?...the second progress bar ("load") says 46%, the system resources say user: 63%, system:63%, GDI: 82%.....this is all without BT running....as far as another client, ill try a new one if it has been ruled that ABC wont work for me....

i ran Free RAM and ABC (thats all), and noted the results until it froze....during this time i moved the mouse (sometimes) to check for "stickiness"....here are the results:
while nothing was on - 39 MB free
while connecting to peers- 1 MB free (4:54)
started working- 34-24 MB free (4:54-4:56)
working (from now on)- 24-16 MB free (4:56-5:01)
16-11 MB free (5:01-5:06)
11-8 MB free (5:06-5:07)
41 MB free (5:08)
41-28 MB free (5:08-5:11)
28-16 MB (5:11-5:16)
16-11 MB free (5:16-5:19) COMPUTER FROZE
so BT was running from 4:54-5:19 (25 minutes), and in that time i got about .5% of the download done (note the download is about 3.5 gigs....i think i forgot that earlier)....im not sure how to lower the max up and download speeds (during this "test" i got from about 9 down and 15 up to 30 down and 25 up)....so outside of changing clients, i am now again stuck....

120 MB of RAM in total and 20 left before BT is even on just isn't enough.

how much would you suggest that i need?
and it was like 40 free, but i dont mean to nit pick....
i believe my computer will support me putting 2 512 MB RAMs into it.....will that suffice?

would lowering the amount of peers that i download not make my computer freeze, b/c a very slow download is better than one that freezes my computer (or none at all).....if so how do i do that?

what are the best settings for speed in BT?.....b/c i figured out a way for Free RAM to automatically free RAM (keep 20 MB free) every 3 seconds, which allows me to regularly use my computer.....so what should i use for speed, and hopefully Free RAM will take care of the freezing.....
right now my settings are
max uploads: 50
minimum peers:60
maximum peers:60
these settings are only giving me a download speed of approx 5 kB/s and an upload speed of approx. 8-10kB/s.....is there anything i should change to improve this, or just wait for it to speed up?

If you are running windows 95/98/ME then either put up with crashes or replace it with an operating system that works
properly. 95/98/ME often crash if programs try to open more than 100 connections in total.
If you are running 2000 or XP then turn off control_panel->system->advanced->startup_and_recovery->restart automatically
so you can see which dll/driver is crashing.
You probably need a new driver for your network card or adsl modem.

unfortunatly, i am running Windows ME.....i got BT working fine (in conjunction with Free RAM), and it was fine for one large download (approx. 3.5 gigs) and one smaller one (approx. 250 MB)....but now im trying another large download (approx. 3.5 gigs), and my computer either freezes (usually when i leave it on overnight) or it wont connect to and peers at all.......i have my minimum peers set at 10, and my max connections set at 40 (60 and unlimited didnt work).....so is there something else i should try, or maybe a new client?...i have already done like 30% of this download, so i dont really want to start over....and i do like the way ABC is set up (click on the icon, and it will start your download-rather than having to re-search for each torrent file every time i start my computer).....so i would like one like that if i need a new client....

www.link2u.tk, but remember that lots of the sites have the same torrents.

yeah the only torrents i found were the same......now whenever i get a connection, it will take a while in "blue status", then once it changes to green, it will only be a very short time before my computer freezes....i dont know what it is.....i really dont think it is the amount of free RAM, because FreeRAM says i have usually around 30-35 MB of RAM free with ABC running (about same as with AOL running)...and it doesnt matter if anyone is on the computer or not, it will still freeze.....and i have my max connections set to 40, min. connections to 10, so i doubt it is that.....when it turns green, i have had about 20-25 kB/s of upload, and 5-15 kB/s of download....is there something wrong with that?...

On Shad0w, blue just means that it currently can't see enough of the network to see all of the file. My BT often can't see all the file to start with, but then turns green, so yes, that is natural.

so if that isnt it, then what is the problem....i only have that download running, the seeds are usually like .8xx (.8 then 2 other numbers), so i think thats ok....and my computer is still freezing after being in green (or connected) status for 30-60 minutes.....so nothing is working so far...

i dont know if this will help or not, but i found it a little wierd....my minimum port number is 6881 and my maximum port number is 6999, i think that it should be a greater range....maybe not, i dont know....but either way, i am running a fast cable internet (at least 1500 kB/s)...
