some guy posted at least 10 different threads, spamming his own "click thru" link. as the mods removed those messages, he made more. so he got banned. then he made a new sn. and spammed again. so he got his ip blocked.

Maybe he mistook this place for an instant messenger. Imagine, a site is down and the world comes to an end for some people.

Anyway, might as well use this discussion for something useful, and hi-jack it. So, I need HELP too. When I telnet, I get a file management menu with the following commands: ll, ls, rm, mv, joe, cd, pwd, uit. I can browse to the directory I need to go. Now the question: How the heck do I CHOWN?

You can still download Shareaza from Download.com (http://download.com.com/3000-2166-10254896.html?tag=lst-0-1)

i just went there last night.

just remember, when trying to get to the site, do not use "shareaza.com". for whatever reason, the name doesn't connect... you must use www.shareaza.com

hehe. Well, I have three files in a sub-directory on my ISP's server for which I need to change the ownership. I'm not sure how to go about it to change that.

If you are impatient, then you don't want to use Shareaza (or eDonkey/eMule for that matter).

Downloads can be very slow and queues are very long.

If you are impatient, then you don't want to use Shareaza (or eDonkey/eMule for that matter).

That is true, but it depends on what you are downloading.

If you search for Shareaza18A4.exe you're going to find a ton of sources and the 2.7 meg file will be downloaded within a few minutes at very high speeds.

A friend of mine was in a band years ago and wanted me to download some new Audioslave song for him because it sounded like a ripoff of one of his old bands songs. He heard it on the radio and wanted to compare it to his CD. It's pretty close, too...anyway.... We didn't know the name of the song, so we had to download a couple different ones before we found the right one. All of those downloads were done within a few minutes, too.

Now if you are downloading a 700 meg file....be prepared to wait a while. I've had them take less than 24 hours and I've had them take 2 weeks or more, and everywhere in between. Sometimes files with 10 sources download in a few days and sometimes files with 500 sources take 10 days. I try to run Shareaza every night from around 11pm to 8am. On the weekends I might leave it on from Friday night to Sunday night. The longer it's on the better chance you have of staying in queues long enough to get the file and if you leave it on overnight that's at least 8 or 9 hours. And you don't get impatient watching it waiting for it to download. Instead you get surprises some mornings. :)

I've also noticed that if you only download 1 big file at a time, and pause the rest (you have to pause them as soon as they go into Downloads before they download any data that could be used in PFS) you'll get them all much quicker. The PFS upload queue fills up with that file you are downloading letting all your other shared files upload through the other queues. This helps spread the file around quicker which benefits the entire network. When that one is done, start the next one. You should get a new file every few days if you do it right.
