Ok, I know this subject's been posted about quite a bit, but it's all kind of left me more confused than before....

At the moment, I'm using Kazaalite but I'm sick of all the low quality files, the viruses (virii?), worms, trojans and all the files that seem to spontaneously corrupt and then get spread around until only the corrupt version's available.

Thing is, aside from all the crap, fasttrack still has loads of files, it's pretty easy to use and you can nearly always find what you're looking for.

What I want to know is what are the alternatives? -I tried sharazza a few days ago, I was connected to gnutella, gnutella 2 and eDonkey and tried to download some files. Most of the files I queued stayed on pending (with loads of sources), some were 'active' with loads of sources but did nothing, and the ones that did start transferring were at really, really low speeds (under 1KB/s).

Not sure if this is because I'm on a dial-up at the moment, but I did seem to be uploading at 3KB/s?

Anyway what's the best network and the best client to use? Which is best for quality/content/speed (I might be getting ADSL soon...)/not spreading corrupt virus ridden trojan worms?

-or if there's not a general all rounder, what should I use for films, what should I use for music, what should I use for software?

If you disagree with someone, please don't just say you're speaking out your bottom, use this instead... say why you disagree. Please?

I'm confused to what one your deleting (delete your own threads by hitting the edit button on your first post and then select to delete it at the top), so hedging my bets and posting in both:
I don't have that a big a problem with K-lite and still use it to download singles. Run mp3 checker on it. There is also software to redownload the corrupt parts. Sometimes I use Ares, but I'm sure that it is slower than it used to be and all the hashing drives me mad. Its good if you share a lot of music, but not for just popping on to get the latest single.
Otherwise BitTorrent (Yet ABC and Azureus clients). Reliable (fake and corruption wise) and very fast, but no singles. Also if no torrent is running for a particular file you want, then you can't get it, no matter how many pepole have it.

actually, I take all that back....

the other post is in the wrong place, this one's in the right one. Please could anyone of the really, really nice mods delete that one and not shout at me for clearly not reading the 'Please, please, please, please.... DO NOT POST HERE' notice?

-and eveyone else, please ignore the last "please don't reply in this thread, reply in the other one" post above.... This is the right one!

-er... hope that's all cleared up.

anyhoo, which P2P network and app?

I've deleted the other thread! Cheers!

@Malicious: You mentioned software for downloading corrupt parts on fasttrack...

-how reliable is this, and does it actively search for non-corrupt parts or will it just end up patching the corrupt with the corrupt?

-and does it work for movies as well as MP3's? Sometimes a few corrupt frames can make the rest of a movie go out of sync or make the entire thing hang!

i use kazaa lite resurrection 2.4.8 and that works great for me. sure there are fake files and viruses on the fastracknetwork but the great files outweight the bad. also i used ares a lot for songs but i havent been able to connect to that for some reason but everyone else has so give that a shot. also just experiment with other programs and see what works best for u.

You will need to sign up for the forum, but there is information on the untilities here:

I don't know how well they work, but I'm guessing that there is the same amount of risk that you will just download the corrupt part again as you had downloading it first time as kazaa will use the same sources.
I may have got the wrong end of the stick. The corruption scanner may not find screeches, that could only be the mp3 checker.
