Hi there!

I'm doing a master thesis on Distributed Computing Over P2P Networks.

I developed a open framework that will allow P2P file sharing networks to make Distributed Parallel Computing.

I'm developing a Gnutella client that implements this framework. I called it GnutellaHTC (High-Throughput Computing).

Interested ?

Take a look at: http://www.geocities.com/tiagonmas/ and please comment

Bye,
Tiago Andrade e Silva

No.

Nobody wants another gnutella client. Most people don't want gnutella at all.

For what reason whould people allow their computers to be used for this?

Nobody wants to pay money in return for distributed computing services.
I know of one company which pays people to run a program. They provide a website testing service so companys and organisations can find out if their website is accessible from all over the world
so they are really paying for bandwidth. Running the program every day results
in a payment of a couple of dollars a month.

I don't see anything about code signing or sandboxing on your webpage. How can users be sure that the jobs which get downloaded and run won't change their homepage to somthing disturbing, install spyware and upload their private files?

so now we won't have to download programs to get viruses from p2p?

Well, the program running will be a Java Applet that can be signed (one of the settings might be to run only signed code). The security if the same as of the JVM Sandbox ...

I'm developing a new client just for testing the framework. The ideia is that, if it works, this functionality would be implemented in general gnutella clients...

To increase their rating on the P2P system. That would allow to have better downloads or allow him credits to submit jobs ...

Check out the older versions of XoloX...they've already done this. The whole point of XoloX was to show someone (I forgot who) that it could be done and so they created this amazing Gnutella App and when their experiment was complete they cut all support for it.

Now they're back but they haven't released a Gnutella-shattering version yet. The old one had multisource downloads which was totally unique and previously unheard of in gnutella.

I was talking about the XoloX of yesteryear that had the distributed computing. Might want to check that out with them.

Yeah all these anti-Guntella people need to read the GDF a little and see what is coming down the pipe in Gnutella world.
