View Full Version : Riaa Demands The Stop Of File Sharing

I was just wondering if anyone heard that little prick on TV from the RIAA as he was banging his fist, “We demand the stop of file sharing”. I think it was on Tech TV but don’t take my word for it because I wasn’t paying that much attention to it until I heard those words.
So now they are demanding us to stop sharing file, I have heard that they are going to shut down the internet to lawsuits. I think a few of us learned these rules in grade school. I don’t know anymore, but I can say this much, I don’t care how long they cry, or what they do I am not giving up on what I think is our own business.

Talking with my father tonight he had mentioned to me that one of the guys that want to be president of the United States vows that he will put a end to file sharing. I would have liked to have heard that guy say that. I wonder if he knows how many people there are on the internet.

Let us just face it, the RIAA has lost their fight, even before it has begun. Just look at it this way, the RIAA is there for protect copy right laws, this much we all know. They have many people that are working for them, right? These people who are working for them are just doing their jobs, right? They are doing their jobs just like you and I do everyday, right? (Laughs) here is the question of all questions, how many of you have F**k on our jobs? Can I see a raise of hands?

Ok, so now that we all agree to this pretty much, it is just a cycle and it is going to run its course just like everything else does. They are going to do their jobs and we are going to do ours, and we all go back home at night set in front of the computer and download Music, files, and what ever else is out there. I just don’t know sometimes, why people get so mad, and act crazy when it comes to simple solutions, my father use to tell me and still does, if it is something you can fix then fix it, but if you can’t do anything about it, then don’t worry about it.

They can’t fix this, what has been done has already been done. So we the people should just not worry about it. There is always going to be an internet. They can’t take that from us. Next step in the internet is just a day away, not years, months, weeks, when you wake up tomorrow there will be something new. (Laughs) They demand? They should be kissing out feet, because we are the ones that are keeping them working. See, what getting at, (Laughs) if it wasn’t for us, they would be standing in the unemployment line, or flipping burgers.

They DEMAND! Well shit boys, here we are take your best shot.

Their only big win was Napster.

The only reason was because it was a centralized network.

Filesharing will live on, they sure as hell cant sue us all.

Demands will only go so far, specially if no one cares.
Like you said
Well shit boys, here we are
and from macromedia :D not exact wording
we can't wait to see what you'll try and do to us

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have said; "We demand the stop of filesharing" but if he did, he should fire his speech writer.

And by the way, WTF - "how many of you have F**k on our jobs? Can I see a raise of hands?". Are you trying to ask how many of us have sexual relations during work hours??? HA, I wish - and if you do..... are there any jobs going????

Filesharing will live on, they sure as hell can't sue us all.

But they can get ISPs to cancel the internet access of anyone they catch sharing.

It would really hamper file-sharing if we all had to go back to dial-up.

Not if the courts have anything to say about it! And the way it is going, I would say they have a LOT to say!

Yes, but they wouldn't (be allowed to?) get all our internet access accounts cancelled - it would kill the ISPs.

theres one flaw in your logic.
the isp's are arening their money from users mainly broadband and thus mainly file sharers. isp like any buisness dont want to lose any user for whatever reason. they might burn one or 2 file sharers 2 get the mpaa/riaa off thier back but if it will get worst they will fight.
banning file sharers costs them money!

hell if was'nt for filesharing i would'nt even need my cable internet.
And that's what the ISPs know... which is why they're in no hurry to cancel accounts for filesharing. They know that we won't be needing broadband to check email and surf ebay...

No filesharing, no broadband for me - I wouldn't need it.

Who are they to demand, anyway? I demand they whack each others pee-pees! I demand Sharman does the same.

I just hope the CRIA (Canada) are not as relentless or should I say as primitive as their counterparts.

1. Filesharing is the tip of the riaa's problem. Before the net they had a high speed connection to what people could watch. The net makes any 18 year old with a camera a movie star. The net makes media networks obsolete. Any program can be stored and downloaded from a single copy. Copies are obsolete as a device to get people to pay the man.

2. See Number 1. We can not predict the future, but voters have congress by the balls. If congress outlaws, or passes laws to stop the entertainment industry from bleeding because of technological advances, the people have the power to remove from power en mass those that align with the greedsters.

3. They can fix anything. The question is, is will it work. I think the days of paying $1 per movie are over. Once you have watched 150 riaa produced movies, you start to feel very quesy. Then you realize most movies are cheesy.

4. The have and have not problem is the REAL problem. Unless we have a full employment society that guarantees every citizen a middle class income you will never have a society based on freedom but a have\have not class struggle that may keep the corrupt system in power for a while. At some point, the point of no return, the people always win, if not in this lifetime, then for us we loose.

Open source will distroy closed source. It is a matter of time and a matter of programming.

Maybe what he ment to say was that he wants a few $donations$ from the entertainment industry to support his presidential campaign. And if he is serious, having an 'iorn fist' regarding privacy might not help his public view any more than it's helped the RIAA or Cary Shermans. :mellow

I definately would like more info on that. I won't vote for anyone who wants to take away one of the few things that we own.

The RIAA guy sounds like my little 3 year old cousin and I'll just ignore him the same.

Yeah, well, that's his job - I mean, if he didn't say he wanted to stop file sharing, he would come off as someone who doesn't care about copyrights - opening the door for other infringers. If he doesn't care about this infrigment, it would be hard for him to come to another infrigment and say "Well, this one is different."

And, why does everyone always say "They can't sue us all" (someone posted it further up). That's not their point - the lawsuits is to "educate," as they put it. Of course they can't sue us all - that would be impossible.

I guess we should all give up now and go buy Britney's new CD from the store. Lawsuits we could deal with but little RIAA representatives "demanding" on TV is more anyone can take.

That's a good point. They will fight.

But ISPs can only make money within the limits of the law. Currently the law says if The Man tells an ISP that IP 12.3.4.5 is sharing BritneySpears.mp3, the ISP is supposed to cut off that user until they stop sharing the file and sign a form saying they're sorry.

If the RIAA/MPAA get their way, the ISPs will still make plenty of money selling web hosting and internet access to businesses and Everquest addicts.
