Hi,
I got a new laptop recently, have installed all the correct codecs but keep having problems with the majority of my files.
For some reason, I keep getting an error popup message telling me that windows has encountered a problem and Media Player has to shut down.
Obviously this is extremely annoying and i would very much appreciate hearing from anyone who has an idea on how to resolve this.
Thanks
M

I don't think codecs or the lack of them would cause WMP to have to shut down. The answer might be in Events. Right click on My Computer/Manage and look in the Event Viewer/Applications for any hints. The properties of those errors or warnings usually give a clue to exactly what the problem is.

I'm actually having the same problem right now, but mine ONLY crashes when I try to stream mpegs off of websites. It plays the audio, but the video never moves, and it says WMP crashed if I try to close it.
I read somewhere that a firewall can sometimes cause this, I tried the fix and it didn't work.
I've also got all the latest codec packs.

Yep, I used autopatcherXP and installed anything related to WMP.
Is there an easy way to uninstall WMP? Not permanently...just so I can reinstall it.
