Winamp bug opens the door for mp3 virii

That one down side about using every piece of "just released" software, no one has had a chance to test run it before you and find all the bugs, spyware and other problems in it. That's why I'm usually reluctant to download something like three seconds after it's been released.

I agree, but depending on the company who releases it will also determine(at least for me) if I will download it right away or wait.:hole

I think you mat have misunderstood that original post. It is the previous versions of WinAmp that have the bug, 2.8 has fixed it!

I tend to like small and efficient applications and 2 you might like are 1by1 and coolplayer.
Coolplayer has come a long way and sounds great now.
1by1 simply plays a directory but it is so small it enables you to multi-task easier, also coolplayer is very small also.

the reason I bring it up at all is these players cannot be used by hackers the way winamp was, Though new version if winamp is said to be fixed now. but why take chances!

I personally did not like CoolPlayer. I could actually hear the difference between coolpleyer's quality and that of other progs which is unusual for me, I'm not quite a nutty audiophile.

It did have nice features, and was small though, and if they've updated the decoding engine since I last checked, I'm all for it.

My favourite non Winamp MP3 player is easily Ultraplayer. Built in video, excellent decoder (for all intents and purposes as good as Frauenhoffer's), decoding(to WAV) with a button click, and with a little $ or hack, encoding with a button click. All for a good small size and no ad/spyware. (nope, I'm not affiliated with them. If I'm 'affiliated' with anone it's Winamp)

Why Take Chances you say? Well, easy. Winamp is simply the best out there and its easy to teach to people with unlimited customization for your own personal use.

Coolplayer really does sound better now. I also did not like it when it first came out. It is open source now and has one of the best mp3 decoders.

winamp is ok I have it. But if you want to do 3 or 4 things at the same time a simple application is good.

I'd like to say NO....but I can't.
I have RealPlayer 8 sitting quietly in the background,
for the drivers. Everything else is disabled.
I use the Tara Plug-in (http://wwwpop.hypermart.net/plugin/welcome.html) with Winamp to play all .ra files.
There's a way to install just the drivers without the RealPlayer
interface, but it's kinda complicated.

As for RealPlayer, it's bloated (takes up too much memory and resources);
contains spyware, and trys to take over everything on your computer.

One day everybody will wake up to streaming in ogg vorbis,
( a much higher quality steam) instead of ra,
and the world of music will be a better place.

I liked Real Audio Jukebox, But they have so much spyware installed on your computer. it's terrible. And like someone said above, it runs constantly. Since they updated, it have MORE spyware and ads. i'll just stay with winamp 2.6

and have even had them all on my comp at the same time. My decition was to move to Musicmatch. For me it does everthing that I want a player to do and it does it well. it sounds good, it organizes well, ripps well and records well. It is a little bloated but is easy to tag and retag songs. It does not do video. For some reason Winamp seems to be the ZP choice-free,small and ugly and it plays partial downloads. I use it rarely. Sorry Jeramey.

You call it ugly yet you can skin it. The only thing making it ugly is you, for you can make it beautiful too. I don't want bloated software. I like stand alone units to do ripping, playing, burning. To me it all seems easier that way plus it doesn't burn up as much CPU power.
