WinWaste

WINW is a small worlds networking utility. It was inspired by WASTE, a P2P darknet product released by Nullsoft in May 2003 and then withdrawn a few days later. The WINW project has diverged from its original mission to create a clean-room WASTE clone. Today, the WINW feature set is different from that of WASTE, and its protocol is incompatible with WASTE's protocol. However, WINW and WASTE achieve similar goals: they allow people who trust each other to communicate securely.

How to use
30-second directions: Install. Run. Generate key. E-mail your public key to a friend, along with your IP address. Make sure port 8888 is open through your firewall. When you get your friend's public key, go to "Add Friend..." and paste his key in. Also enter his IP address in the hostname field. Make sure your friend does the same for you. Quit and restart WINW. You should now be able to chat with each other.

The current version has the following features:

Generation of RSA key pairs
Negotiation of secure, trusted connections from peer to peer
Broadcast request/routed reply network architecture
Rudimentary chat capabilities
Password protection of private key (in other words, the current version is just for testing. Do not rely on it for any actual security.)
Filesharing
Chat rooms (i.e., more than two people)
Routing -- only direct P2P connections for now
Simultaneous multiple mesh networks
Enhanced network architecture (I'm not sure what that means)
Reasonable status or error reporting
Abandonment of WINW protocol and replacement with something well-tested, like TLS
