I don't know why.
We had spyware on our computer about a week ago and I downloaded Spybot S&D for it. I cleaned up a bunch of files on our computer..
So..a couple days ago, my mom tried burning a CD and we use the RecordNow program that came with the PC. Everytime we click to use it, it says "Windows is preparing to install" and then it goes about 33% and then it says "The feature you are trying to use is on a network that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to folder containing the installation package 'MyCD.msi' in the box below".
I asked my technology coordinator what to do at school, and he said to put the original CD that came with the computer in..and install it again. But, we didn't get one..so..
I guess I'm asking what I should do. Is there another program I can download that burns music? Or what? Any ideas or comments would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks for helping a newbie out!

ummm.....

what program do you use to d\l files?

I used Kazaa..but I had a spyware problem, so that's why I used the spybot program. But I'm trying to find a link to Kazaa lite..so, hopefully that'll work.

Also what operating system do you use, as if its windows XP you might be able to roll back to a earlier date before the damage was done.

Go to thier website and see if you get a updated version for free since you already have the original program on your computer. That way you can download the install file and run it.

You might even try it with the install file from a trial version and see if it'll install the missing file you need.

You can get a real headache dealing with .msi files.

Seeing as your burning program stopped working after you used spybot, have you tried using the recovery option in spybot to see if you accidentally removed any registry entries etc for your burning prorgamby mistake. You really have to check everything spybot lists for deletion in case some things should stay as they are.

Be really careful with HP RecordNow, my flatmate had lots of problems. I can't remember what he was trying to do, but it screwed up his system. He went for help and followed the instructions on the HP website. That was the last his computer worked, even with help from Nasrules and CPU.
Anyway, I can't remember the full story, so I can't warn you properly, something about installing a patch first. Just be careful!

To bad there are not many freeware burning apps.
But here are a few I have come across.

Mp3CDdoctor
http://www.mp3surgeon.co.uk/doctor.php?source=web&cur=us
deepburner
http://www.deepburner.com/
buratonce.com
http://www.burnatonce.com/

I have used burnatonce and it's pretty good but would not recomend it for a newbie as it can take a bit of configuring, it can burn long file names (207 characters with ISO9660:1999) and burn quite a few music formats(wav,mp3,ogg,mpc,acc,ape,flac) to audio cd.
It's small uses minimum system resources and is actually a frontend to a command line application called cdrdao.

The first 2 cd burning apps are simple and straightforward and work with just mp3 and wav files to audio cd.
