Ok, i'm home for semester break and my parents have a minor annoyance with their cpu. Somewhere in the struggle to remove windows messanger I think they might have deleted a system file. Now everytime they start their cpu, Windows File Protection pops up and tells them to pop in Service Pack 1. I installed all the windows updates, and even reinstalled Windows Messanger. The message ceases to die. I offered to turn off the WFP, however my parents were'nt thrilled with the fact that it wont "FIX" the problem. I tried to install SP1, but every link i followed brought me to the Windows Update page, which only scanned my cpu and told me i didnt need it. Any suggestions? My dad has been having alot of trouble with certain sites on this cpu too. He always gets a message that cookies are disabled, even though they're not. My advice was to totally reinstall windows...but thats my answer to everything.

Yeah i would just reinstall windows without a reformat, copy all the files over to CD, then reformat the drive and reinstall Windows, and it will be as good as new.

My theory is the computer can always use a refomat once in a while to just clear out some problems :)

i'd just use the network installer that piranetus posted first...

and if that doesn't fix it (i'm sure it will) then that could be a viable option.
